For those of you keen on cycling (and even those who are not) there is the 2nd episode of a 4 part series on bbc1 tonight. Its about a man called Mark Beaumont who has rode his bike over 18,000 miles around the world in just under 195 days. Its a brilliant program to watch. The first one was on last night. The series is running from yesterday until thursday night at 10.35pm. He rode from John O’Groats to Land’s End on his own aged only 15!

By the way, he is on the new orange advert too:P

Watched it last night...really good.

The equivalent of 6 Christmas dinners??!!!!!!!!!

cheers. I'll watch that.

PS. I rode JOG to L.E. in 11 days, on my own aged 32. 1085 miles it took me. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

I hate that advert!!!! arrrrgh

Very good programme.

The sound in his voice when he recognised rat shit next to his bed in the hotel was priceless.

He could whinge in the olympics that bloke.

"I woke up in the night and didn't feel too well...."

Could've been much better if he told us more about the people and places he was i rather than whineing about the traffic or the state of the roads or the fact that he's not had enough food. Eat some fuckin meat then...

this programme's been brilliant. If anyone's ever done any long-distance cycling you've just got to empathise with this guy. When I did my JOG to LE I too video'd it and it brings back so many memories watching this guy do the same. Brilliant days!

Must plan a trip for next year.

Agreed. He has done some serious miles

I'm about to do my first century ride in the next few weeks and I will be fooked by the end of it. This guy is doing well over a century ride every day! Me and my mate are starting to plan JOG to LE ride for next summer once we have done the century. How much training did you do for the JOG ride? We were planning on going to do it in about 20 days so we could take our time and visit a few of the places we pass.

Anyway, back on topic. Tonights last episode should be good, he is travelling through north america tonight. He gets mugged and Knocked off the bike. Bet he was pissed off after riding through Afghanistan and Iran without any trouble but ends up getting mugged in america

I remember you saying about the 100 ride a few months ago, just after I'd done M/cr to Blackpool. Re the JOG to LE, I didn't do any training would you believe. I was dead fit at the time, cycling 9 miles a day commuting and playing 5a-side footie twice a week. Granted the commute wasn't exactly long distance but I treated it like a time-trial and tried to beat my time each day.

You'll love the end to end trip. I took my own tent and camped the whole way. My bike was ridiculously heavy though. I was doing 11 hour days in the saddle averaging just less than 100 per day. 1085 miles in 11 days ain't bad I'll tell you. The most I did in a day was 125 (twice) and the least 68. If you want any tips/advice or info re route give us a pm and I'll be glad to help.

Goodluck with the 100 - I wish I was on it now. :(
