would you like a pint bet scorer

Nah, just done my research... 1961/62 (should have known.... year I was born).
pretty sure they went down the yr after they won it.
However, if the pint included that they got relegated (as did City) the year after I may consider it.

That said....

We were formed (1880) as St Marks before Liverpool and Spurs had been formed in any form.
We won our first major trophy (1904 FA Cup) before Arsenal and United did theirs.
We had the first ever superstar of football playing for us (Billy Meredith).
We had approximately 1million people in the streets of Manchester for our 1904, 1934 and 1956 FA Cup trophy parades (Manchester has seen no crowds this big with any other club).
We had the biggest club football ground in England (85-90000) from 1923.
We have numerous (I have read it is 6, can't find a link tho) of the top 10 best attendances at a club football ground in England including the best. Which is also the second highest ever sporting crowd in the north of England (Warrington RLFC played Halifax RLFC in Bradford and there was a crowd of 102000 there, unofficially it is said there was upto 120000 actually there!).
We were the first team a King or Queen ever went to see play in a cup final (v Portsmouth 1934).
As Champions we were invited to play a selected Germany XI in Germany in 1937 (this sort of thing had never been done before or since).
We have won league titles, the FA Cups, league cups, youth cups and a European trophy. There are only a very select few other clubs who can say that.

Good stuff mate.

No history my arse.

I don't understand why you'd be upset by claims of having 'no history' its an incredibly pathetic remark and clearly ignorant. I am aware that you may have heard remarks from some of our own idiots but I'd like to think that the majority respect Man City as a historically big club. Not that past success really matters, all clubs have a history and in some ways having a history of no success is more admirable in terms of the core supporters who have stuck with that club.

It's easy for clubs like Man Utd and Liverpool to talk about their support because they've had shitloads of sustained success.

Fair play you seem to be that rarest of beasts on BM...an evertonian with a sense of perspective and an awareness of the history of both clubs

Some of this stuff is almost lost in the mists of time and there is no harm in reminding our own younger supporters as well as those of other clubs that frequent this board, of some of the major milestones in our history. This is even more important when $ky only talk about history as if it started in 1992. As a result there are many kids out there with ill-informed $ky/ daily mirror 1992+ type views of football and no real sense of history with regard to their own clubs let alone other clubs.

Attendances get raised again and again by ill-informd fans of other clubs as if we have historically been a small club in terms of support when in fact historically we have always been one of the biggest and indeed in terms of individual home gates we are the very biggest in football history. Everton too come a very creditable 4th in those rankings behind City, Chelsea and the rags.
