The media, us and the rags - the truth

That is true, though. If Lescott doesn't get first-team football next season, the likes of Cahill, Jagielka, Ferdinand, Smalling and Jones will eventually be picked ahead of him.

There's not really any particular spin on that to put United in a good light, it is just what's going to happen. Lescott's getting older now and Nastasic is turning into a defender that has quality above Lescott's capabilities. Because of this, Lescott won't get in the team as often as he'd like and will therefore not be picked for England as much.

But nothing about Smalling not featuring in the rags team and needing to leave or Jones who has featured sporadically. In fact I would bet that Lescott has played more than both of them.

I'm curious as to why none of you believe what journalists write in newspaper articles, but are quick to believe this particular journalist's reporting because he's said what you wanted him to say.

Or have I just answered my own question?
It's someone I know and trust implicitly plus he approached me quite voluntarily. I've had various dealings with the media since 2006 and have some idea of the way they operate. I know they collaborate with in-house media teams at the clubs and I know that there's a motive for every story. I also know of the power of PR people and how they can get things into the media and also keep them out. Yet it never even occurred to me that a group of journalists on competing papers would actually decide as a group how to twist a manager's words. You may feel it's bullshit but I couldn't even make something like that up.

For the semi final, I was sat in the block of seats directly below the press box.
When Nasri scored the opener, I looked at the press box and the vast majority looked like there'd been a death in the family.

I don't expect them to jump for joy, but their sadness was all too plain to see. When 25,000 fans started singing "Mancini, he comes from Italy...", I cupped my ears and pointed to the City fans. Jason McAteer like, I gestured for them to put that in their copy.

We scored our 2nd just after half time and half the wankers didn't come out for the second half. Those who did sat slumped over their monitors. They only perked up when Chelsea pulled one back.

Special mention to 2 old boys in the press box who shook my hand at FT.

Just checked appearances 2012/13

Lescott 23 premier league
Smalling 15
Jones 15

Where are the articles about those two needing to leave to guarantee starting places for England.....

I would guess its based on the fact that both Jones and Smalling are very young and therefore they have plenty of time to cement an England place before they turn the wrong side of 30, whereas the WC in Rio is a last chance saloon for Lescott if he's still harbouring England ambitions. I don't really see a media spin on such a comment about Lescott on this occasion.

You are right.. It's like the super sub tag Dzeko got early in the season he has now played more game than little pea from the scum the media is our enemy and a bunch of kunts

Joining the party late.

Great post PB it's so bleeding obvious from now on there is simply no point in debating if there is an agenda to help support the rags it's only worth discussing how we manage to find a way around it.

I agree on the whole with press is nearly always biased to the Rags.
One exception though is the excellent Martin Samuels at the Mail. He has said again today that FFPR are designed to keep the Rags et al at the top of the pile and it will be the death of competition. I can't cut and paste the article, but if someone could it's a welcome relief to see a journalist go against the grain and tell it how it is

Lescott and Kompany was our main partnership last season, and the fact that Nastasic as come in and replaced Lescott with ease must say that he's going to be looking elsewhere for first-team football. Whereas, Jones and Smalling are both young and are both developing, and are therefore not expected to be in the team ahead of United's best centre-half pairing for nearly a decade. Not to mention that they've missed portions of this season due to injury.

Lescott has made 28 appearances in all competitions, Jones has made 21 and Smalling has made 22. There's not that much of a difference - and even less of one when you take their injuries into account. Jones was out until November with a hamstring injury and has been injured since.

It's not rocket science - there, unfortunately, more of the glory-hunting Rag w@nkers that buy the papers or subscribe to Sky, so they pander to their masses.
The one thing I find laughable - and sad too - is the 'Emperor's new clothes' effect - whereby Rags are so gullible they believe every little thing that is fed to them! So, when Baconface tells them they never boo a player, they all forget that they did the very same thing not too long ago to Shrek, who didn't even leave! They believe that they were the better team in the second half of the Swamp derby!
