The media, us and the rags - the truth

You are spot on PB.
I wish someone at City would monitor these articles ,especially ,Neil Custis (Sun) and Steve Bates ( People) .
Then the agenda would be obvious and they could be reported to the Press Council.
The people at City are very aware of this ,but are frightened to rock the boat.
Next season count how many United players slag off City ,none of it written by the player themselves.
Do not forget the quote from Ferguson,We never talk about other clubs.
I wish someone would collect all his quotes and publish them ,he would look a Prat.

As someone else pointed out you can see the media bias in the way that two incidents involving the clubs are reported, if both clubs win 1-0 at home, city struggle to 1-0 victory whereas united stroll to 1-0 victory, Balotelli was sent off by the exact same ref for the exact same challenge as nani , when balo did it he was a disgrace and an idiot and cost city the game, when nani did it he the ref was a joke and cost united a champions league even though they would have had to win another 5 matches!

There is one doing the rounds atm which came from the press that we conceded the league title earlier than any other defending champions in premiership history. That by the way was Blackburn but lets not let the truth get in the way

Internet traffic so important to the papers these days and i have noticed the stories in the MEN are getting more ridiculous and sensationalist by the week particularly when it comes to stories about the two clubs such as parades, no of local supporters etc etc..these stories inevitably result in traffic and red against blue which they want.

Does anyone know where that ridiculous one about the scum ruining our parade date, if we won the cup, came from. Was that actually through some form of media

And 'the worst champions' since Blackburn were guess who?

Look no further than MUFC surrendering to Arsenal in 2002 & 2004.. finished 3rd both times and 2nd time 15 points behind.

That date after the final was NEVER going to be the one for a parade for us IF we win the Cup, we have a game 24 hours later away to Reading yet the woeful MEN had it as the main headline and once again making sure you would have red against blue thus guaranteeing more online hits.

MUEN full of shit, what a shocker.

I'm assuming that the club are playing the long game with the media. We just need to keep on winning silverwear while the rags go into decline. Eventually saying city are shit and the rags are great will just start to look stupid.
It comes down to patience, thick skins, and doing the talking on the pitch.

As some of you know, I write for King of the Kippax and in my last article I wrote about the power of the rag’s PR machine and how ruthless they were about putting out their version of the “truth” in order to bolster their image as “the world’s greatest club”. So Baconface’s comments after the derby that they dominated the second half and RVP had a stormer, whereas our goal was clearly offside and his comments after the Arsenal game that their fans never boo a returning player were designed to cement an image with the public that we know isn’t true. I also pointed out that Ian Herbert, nominally the northern football correspondent for The Independent, had written one after another story about them (10 out of his last 12 I think it was at the time I wrote the article).

I was contacted by a freelance journalist I know who told me it was pretty well spot on and asked me who’d given me the information. I told him it was my own opinion based on what I’d seen. He then said there was more to it and contrasted City’s handling of the press with the rags’. Contrary to popular belief, freelancers make up the majority of the reporters as opposed to the salaried journo’s like the Custis’s, Ladyman, Herbert, Taylor etc. So if they ban Ladyman for example, The Mail will send someone else or use a stringer. However it’s serious for the freelancers if they get banned as it’s their livelihood and they don’t get paid if they can’t report so they have to toe the rag party line. Personally I think it’s despicable that they could stop people earning a living (unless it was for something really serious of course) but it shows just how ruthless they are.

He then talked about how City and the media interact. He said he felt we didn’t control our press conferences well and let the media take the piss out of Mancini by taking advantage of his relative lack of English and asking questions they know we’ve told them not to ask. But the most shocking thing was that he said that, after our press conferences, the red-top journalists then sit down together and actually agree between them how they’re going to spin it. So anyone who doesn’t think there is a media agenda needs to think again.

Do you have a link to the article as I don't buy KOTK religiously (apologies)

It's been going on for years, as long as I can remember. Even when they were winning FA back in the 80s they tried to project this image of a "glamourous" club. IMO it's one of the reasons why young lads turn their backs on their hometown clubs or even worse, going against the family tradition of blue to red.

It will take a generation to put right.
