The MEN...

If anything the paper could be leading with a direct club narrative in particular for online content as the club did itself rebrand on platforms such as Twitter, specifically abolishing the use of the #mcfc and going with #mancity
As they did with the domain and twitter @ handle.

I reckon the club media employees have done some extensive market research such as observing social media trend searches, Google search results for content that hits on their official website and so on.. And realised people are searching for man city, and the people looking for rag content are searching for "Manchester United"

I could be wrong as I haven't had a look at the Google analytics for the old MCFC. Co. UK website nor seen the Twitter/Instagram/Facebook analysis.

There was a clear reason why the club went with the rebranding, not just visually but specifically in the clubs online identity.
"City" will always be associated with their CFG operative which is interchangeable throughout this world, be it Manchester, new York and so on.

Maybe they might end up moving "Man" to another distant galaxy when we're long gone, I mean sheikhy boy does have investments with Bransons Virgin Galactic

I seem to recall them making a big push a year or few ago to push the full name Manchester United? Or maybe I imagined it, but I definitely have some recollection of hearing the press had been briefed to call them that

good reply. makes sense

The MUEN has been doing it for ages, long before we rebranded. Someone told me that the rags had let it be known to the media that they should be referred to as Manchester United. It's a branding thing, same as you hear 'Liverpool Football Club' all the fucking time on the radio and TV.

Maybe they are sensitive that there is only one team from Manchester so it is to re assure fans they think they are also from Manchester. Just like wearing the coat of arms on there blazers certainly last yeaR :-)
