I'm afraid OABAAB got that wrong. Two mutal friends of ours were sat right in front of my seat in the press box, so maybe he got his wires crossed. I was tempted to duck out - and to try to "blag" a ticket off City!! - but the chance of getting my name in the paper on the day the 35-year curse was lifted was just too good to turn down.

Might be worth pointing out Simon, that Tolmie defended you in this thread as he has done previously on the forum when you've written City related stories which have had the agenda merchants up in arms. Seems a bit odd that you feel the need to defend yourself over something as innocuous as free tickets.

Anyway, whilst your here, where did you get the 140k a week figure for Mario's wages from ?
£340,000/2 = £170,000

I really should start reading the red tops, if only to keep abreast of who they're holding up as the City over inflated wage of the week ...

I've been given single tickets by the club plenty of times - they sorted me out for the QPR game for example. But I wasn't happy with the suggestion I'd taken 11 tickets from the club's Cup Final allocation when many season-ticket holders couldn't get into Wembley. I've got a thick skin about most things because of the job I'm in, but I felt I had to put that one right. I don't know Tolmie, I don't know who or what he knows, but I spoke to a couple of people who do come on Bluemoon and they told me he has a lot of influence here.

I've seen the fuss about the £170k-a-week and I raised my eyebrows about it when I was told. But the figure came from a rock-solid source. That really is all I can say about it. I know it's a cliche and it's an easy get-out, but if any reporter revealed where they got information from they'd be finished.

If we gave a £170k/week contract to a lad just out of his teens that is fookin' obscene and I just hope the new men in charge approach contract negotiations with more sanity (confident they will).

Simon, why does the Mirror hate City so much?

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for why he thinks you received those tickets. As you well know in your business, being misinformed is par for the course. Sometimes even a rock solid source can be dead wrong ... ;)

That's the way it works! If he's right he's an ITK genius, if he's wrong he's still a genius and it's those awful fuckwits "sources" misinforming him

You can look at it whatever way you want. But I'd certainly be more upset by paid journalists printing absolute lies about City in a newspaper, than I would about a City supporter passing on information he might have heard about transfers, which proves to be incorrect. Still, no doubt those who have a problem with Tolmie will use this thread as an excuse to lay into him. Bluemoon is nothing if not highly predictable.

Sorry to disappoint those who want more fuel on a fire, I will simply say Simon Mullock has every right to stand by his story...

As one of his very few supporters on here, I will simply retract my use of the word 'blag', it does leave the word open to interpretation.

Oh, and Mario earns £110k a week before bonus and the source cannot be bettered;)

Haha, you've put so much spin on that you should work for the Mirror yourself.

I suppose it's out of the question that a paid journalist might actually print his story with the same amount of good faith as a "City supporter passing on news he might have heard about transfers"
Or is that too ridiculous a concept to comprehend ?

So the transfer forum then?

:)

It wasn't the word "blag" I was bothered about. It was the claim that I got 11 FA Cup Final tickets off the club that prompted me to respond.

I also know that the tribunal hearing is over a £340,000 fine. The maximum fine allowed by the PFA is two weeks' wages.

Of course, I'll stick with my source and you'll stick with yours. But what I will say is that the figure came from the person who gave me the rest of the story, which was on nobody's radar.

If you have been supportive of me in the past on Bluemoon, then I sincerely thank you for that. But whoever told you that I got 11 FA Cup Final tickets from the club is giving you incorrect information.

He turned down the chance to get paid for reporting on the FA Cup Final in 2011 so he could sit with us at Wembley to watch the game and cheer us on instead of sitting in the press box

Now I was plastered at Wembley but I still have a pretty good idea who I was sat with.

I'm not revealing my sauce.

No need to thank me for backing you on here, plenty people on here are closed-off to how things can leak out.

Like you, I stand by sources, and on this occasion, have extended the courtesy of contacting you by PM, as not to take this thread in a direction that will serve neither us or this board.
