I remember Distin being sent off, at Portsmouth i think which was crazy. They scored a goal which was blatant handball and as Captain he waited till half time and tried speaking to the ref. Distin had the ball in his hands and the ref asked for the ball and Distin basically asked for an explanation for the goal and the ref sent him off for not giving him the ball back

No it was against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the referee was Rob Styles

ref was correct in that there is a fifa rule with regard player interaction with fans on and off pitch during game, red card can given...not sure exact law but seen this before. when a player tackled a fan....its up to ref to enforce rules.
the problem today is that players dont know the actual laws - they are professionals and yet dont take time to actually learn all the rules....I can forgive the fans as we are not paid to play the game....
at end of day if a player strikes a fan during game....then they CAN BE SENT OFF....thats the rules.
personally i would have sent ferker off just for that haircut (Fifa Rule 45.7 (c) )
