The 'new' Anfield

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (continue

The good old design - four shoe boxes round a football field. Wonderful, iconic Anfield.

I don't like it either

So the great Anfield redevelopment is actually little more than a new main stand? I'd be a bit underwhelmed if I was a dipper. The one plus is that it keeps a link with the past - it's very retro but it's hardly the new Anfield that was being promised a few years back. It probably shows us how lucky we are and how much more visionary our owners are.

I think it could be a good old style stadium if they actually did a propar job of it. That crappy little anfield road stand looks like it will stay the same so no matter how big a main stand they build it will always look a bit shit. I also think it looks really tacky. The plans that Gillet and Hicks put forward a few years ago were incredible, id be disapointed if i was a liverpool fan to go from that to this.
Anfield Road stand to me looks like the only one they could redevelop, housing stops the other 2 from going anywhere, looks pants anyway. A whole new stand adjoined to 3 crap old stands, VISIONARY that
Looks like a baseball park!

Yes absolutely and it does look like a baseball stadium as well. Strange they build a huge out of place main stand that dwarfs all the others and then leave the shoe box anfield road stand with all the space behind it. For me its an iconic ground and if they did it proparly it could be a really nice ground. Seems they have gone for a cheap tacky option with little thought or imagination.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (continue

Leaving any piss-taking aside, I think these plans for Anfield are down to the current owners not wanting to spend big money on the redevelopment. I'm guessing the previous plans put forward by H&G would've come at a much bigger cost.

Either way, an Anfield with increased capacity equals increased revenue and that's something they really should've addressed years ago. If I'm not mistaken, this has been an ongoing issue for over 20 years.

Is it just me ... or does it look like a poor mans Villa Park ?

The 'new' anfield looks awful! Our proposed 60k+ stadium looks a lot better!

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (continue

I don't think the dippers have the money for the stadium they want, they've spunked millions on it already before any work has even started so wouldn't surprise me that these are massively scaled back plans but maybe with possible future changes if the money arises.

Been a few times and as others have said the problem they have with expanding is the houses that surround the ground, so flattening a load of houses and building a new main stand with what looks to be much more space behind them gives them the opportunity in the future to move the pitch more towards the main stand bit like West Ham, freeing up some room to extend the opposite stand, possibly even the kop too as it seems to create a bit more space for that stand too.

This is years if not decades in the future though, if it ever happens at all, but I suppose from a dipper point of view at least it gives them a bit more room to play with

A vision of the future from the 1940's. Something a bit Soviet about it...can't quite put my finger on it.
Good point about semi camouflaging this in the news at this moment in time, decent capacity but not really a looker.

Cheers for them pics though JRB. Small thing, but the trees are already making a great difference on the area. Hard to go wrong with a row of pines...especially when up against tatty overgrown hedge rows.

Are we any closer to a collar site announcement?
