The New Bitters

For years the rags sneered at us calling us "the bitters" in reference to their levels of success and our constant failings.

We were angry with our board of directors, our managers, the players, the media... the Rags.

We probably were a bit bitter, seeing as how we perceived ourselves as being equal to the red fuckers, even if we couldn't match them on the pitch. They even started to let it be known that we were no longer their biggest rivals.

My how things change.

Read the press, watch them on the box, see their contorted faces of hate, see their envy at our new-found wealth, while they slip ever deeper into debt and ignominy.

We are now their biggest match of the season again. Their players and manager go out of their way to show how much they hate us, play their strongest team, confront us when they score a goal... their fans now hate us again.

Fucking great!

Welcome the new bitters.... what took you so long?
they call us bitter because that what they are BITTER, and always have been.

they hate city, liverpool, arsenal, chelsea, leeds and blackburn ( only for 2 seasons ! )

basically any team who has dared to challenge them for honours over the last 40 years !

where as the well penned song goes...'we only hate man yoonited'.

cockney vermin.

It's a bit like alcoholics annonymous - they are in denial.
They need to take a collective sharp intake of breath and mutther the words "i am bitter" and they can begin to feel at ease with themselves. They might as welll get used to it, as can't see us, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona etc going away as they slip from one financial mess to another. Ok, we've achievd not yet, but have gone from "noisy neighbours who need putting back in their box" to a club, whether they admit it or not, that they now fear and need to respect.

and how it shouldn't have been a penalty.

Remind them of the f.a. cup derby at trafford when yoonighted had their phantom penalty for frontzecks 'challenge' on c_ntona that got them back to 1-1 after we had outplayed them for 40 minutes. they won it 2-1, just as we did.

A great put down for the RB's is to say to them:-

" We have been where you are going, we know what is is like, you have my pitty you biiter bast---s".

Then nochantly walk on, whisling Blue Moon.

It works a treat

There are a lot of parallels with the late 60s/early 70s and, as a researcher/writer, I can't help wondering if the past will repeat itself.

When City won the League in 68 Utd did win the Euro Cup BUT it was the end of their great era and everyone in football knew that the balance had swung. Busby should have retired on winning the Cup. He didn't and Utd entered a period where they could not match the success or glamour of City. When Busby did retire, they had a desperate few years culminating in relegation in 1974. Tommy Doc became manager and utd became renowned not for glamorous football but for fan violence (Red Army, first club to have fences installed), scandal (Doc), dodgy dealings (Edwards butcher scandal) and basically all that was bad about the game.

They eventually managed to pull themselves out of this, but the point is that at no time in our history have we been perceived nationally as utd acted in the mid 70s. 'Bitter Blue' doesn't come close - it's just a name based on a mistruth. And utd dropped that low as a direct result of City's success and their own inability to match the Blues.

This could happen again and it will be interesting to see how their fans handle it. Genuine reds set up FC utd and that may increase in attractiveness for those that are proper football fans, but what will happen if our results swing the power to us?

We may be bitter (even though we are not), but at least you dont see bellamy doing this to tevez!

They're scared.

You can tell they're scared, their fickle fans haven't experienced the future their club may have, while Chelsea and ourselves have large financial backing, Arsenal continue to produce year after year plus Spurs and Villa on the rise, they may have some trouble ahead. Their fans are taking it so poorly too, truly bitter, as you would expect by most being shallow glory hunting idiots who don't even know a thing about their club.

Apparently you didn't see Fergiscum's post-match interview? There were kids in the side, Carrick and Fletcher were there! [EXCUSE ALERT]

Actually the full quote is quite funny..."Ryan Giggs [36], Michael Carrick [28], Darren Fletcher [25].....you know they're youngish players...Fletcher and Carrick are youngish..."

I like how he tried slipping Giggs in there then realised he had better not. There's clutching at straws Fergie then there's that!
