The Noonans

I recall the funeral of one of them (I think the one that fell off the Quad bike and it crushed him).
They all marched down Moston Lane to St Joseph's cemetery. I lived on a side street and just happened to leave the house as they walked by.
It was all shaven headed, broken nosed lads dressed in black - all wanna be gangsters looking hard to us bemused onlookers.

I think they all went to a pub in Salford afterwards were of course it all kicked off

For the one that got stabbed in chorlton they closed schools in northenden for his funeral. Was on granada reports and the same, they were all wannabe gangsters in over sized black suits from asda

Somebody very close to me used to promote raves in the 90s and he has always said that the noonans were just bullies. But very dangerous bullies.
White Tony may or may not have found that out to his demise

Coghlan was the one I was thinking of but couldn't remember his name. By all accounts pure evil, got off at least 2 murders.
At least 3, allegedly
One in Marple, one in Stockport & one at his own home

I heard of someone by the name of John Gray but can find no mention of him really. The only thing I could find was that if he was around, the person who had hired him could expect to be completely safe.

On the day of Des funeral I went to Southern Cemetery to pay respects to my grandad on the anniversary of his death which I have done since he died in 1983

i was with my mam and was stopped going through the main gates by a group of scrotes wearing black asking where I was going told them to fuck off as I was visiting a grave

Dominic seen this and told the group to let me through

this is what the Noonans were, a bunch of bullies who if they could bully you

Lived and grew up in Chorlton with Des in the pubs and I knew of him and a few times when I was younger asked to go drinking with him and his hangalongs and he was a hard fucker, but knew to swerve it

My best mate started drinking with them and even went to Rags matches with him, which was sacrilege him being a blue

My mate ended up having to leave the country due to Des hold on him, another mate ended up in Kirkham through taking the rap for him

In the cemetery Des has one of the biggest grave stones with his picture on it and painting of a Rag playing football

just down the side of this grave is a simple grave loving cared for by the deceased family, the grave of Sir Matt Busby

Even in death it’s all about how big and mighty he was

On the other hand I worked for over twenty years with a cousin of Des, he was named after Des dad and Des named after the lads dad

The Noonan I worked with was the most hard working, generous man who had morals

i asked him once why he never was part of that lifestyle and he told me when he was younger he was but grew up to be his own man

Frequently he was asked by Des, Dominic why he would get up every morning at 5am for shit money when he could earn loads with them for fuck all

His answer was I can wake up every morning knowing I hadn’t made other lives less fortunate a misery.

Did you see the documentary a few years back Dominic was fuckin embarrassing. It was just do cringeworthy. He had all these young boys hanging about him (obviously) and he was trying to come across as somebody. A godfather type figure. It was painful viewing
