The official EDS and academy thread 2011/12

U18s are 0-3 down to Wolves, sounds like a comedy of errors. First goal a poor pass intercepted, second goalkeeper failed to hold, third goal keeper missed a corner. And keeper (Halsall) just missed another cross forcing a goal line clearance.

I think there plying a weakened team with the next gen playing on monday

Losing to Celtic, this NextGen is turning into a disaster for us if we can't get something out of this as this is supposed to be the easy game. There were loads of goalkeeper/defensive howlers from the U18s at weekend, sounds like the same today.

Still the first half though, time to salvage something.

shouldnt left the reserve league

I forsee a lot of friendlies being set up against European and English teams if we exit the NextGen early. I doubt the club expected us to not reach the next stage but we're facing the possibility of it if we can't get a result in the second half. A draw tonight would not be the end of the world but with Barcelona (away), Marseille (home), and Celtic (away) the games left, very difficult...

City pull it back to 3-2 then Celtic make it 4-2 seconds later! Looks like the defending badly needs some work at EDS/U19/U18 level.

Of course we should.the results mean little, what matters is each lads gets to compete in a more competitive game.
we hardy play and friendlies or matches against teams like oldham in the senior cup are not competitive.

Is anyone really arsed about how well the youth team does as a group? Obviously i want us to go far in the fa youth cup and this next gen league but not at the expense of producing a Andrew Tutte than a Xavi.

They have all learnt more tonight than battering them 5-0.

To an extent no - but I want them to get through to the knockout stages, surely this could only benefit them as it'd mean more matches against different European clubs in a high concept tournament.

this level is about player development and experience. Positive team results are merely a bonus.

Good job you can't get relegated from the NextGen cause we are truly shite at the moment. Hopefully we won't blow millions on a youth squad that produces jack shit ala Chelsea.

That was an abysmal performance both from most individuals and as a team.Celtic seemed quicker, stronger, more aware, had a better first touch and were overall more organised than we were.

Back to the drawing board after this one.

Well it sounds like Roman had a good game at least, two more goals for him. Suarez getting most of the hype but Roman is delivering.

I would have sworn Roman got the first and Suarez the 2nd. Roman was mostly awful tonight and at times a liability as he was giving the ball away far too often and in bad areas as well. His goal was a joke goal as you will see when you watch the highlights eventually on the OS.

Suarez was probably City's best player and I still thought he had a poorish game but at least his goal was a wonderful goal.

Our youth team is just not as good as we think it is!! Thats the fact and yet still people dig into Mancini for not giving the youth a chance..
