George Evans - The Next Paul Lake perhaps?

Player Profile;

Born - 13/12/1994 in Stockport
Height - 6'0
Foot - Right
Position - Central Midfielder
International Honours - England Under 16 & 17 Caps
Supports - Manchester City
Other Hobbies - Cricket
Best Friend at City - Emyr Huws
Most like in the First team - Gareth Barry

He may seem abit gangly with his 6'0 frame and next to no muscle, but do not judge a book by its cover. George Evans is one of those central midfielders you love to have in your team; he has height to give him prescence, his technical abilities are second to none and he also loves the physical side of the game.

Whilst at City he has played defensive midfield, central midfield, attacking midfield, right back, centre back and right wing which shows that his reading of the game is superb being able to slot into many different positions and not look out of place. He does not have blistering pace, however he does have enough to get himself out of trouble should he ever need to.

He was recently a surprise call up to City's pre season tour of Austria, and again did not look out of place with the big boys, even though in one game he almost snapped an opposition player in half with a tackle!

He also has different forms of international experience, playing for the England Under 16's and 17's as a regular and was part of the squad that played in the 2011 Under 17 World Cup helping England to the quarter finals (along with fellow team mate Alex Henshall) Evans' recent performance with the EDS team have also earned him a call up the England Under 19's squad, which shows that he still is showing that potential.

What's next for George Evans?
Evans will be 18 in December and that is when players start itching for first team experience, whether it be with his current club or out on loan is not certain yet, maybe a Capital One Cup appearance is in the offing, but one thing is for certain George Evans will be a player to watch.

Hi all

Im going to be writing an article on the NextGen series, a kind of 'ones to watch' piece.

I wanted to write a bit on Denis Suarez or maybe Rekik. But the im not a City fan so I don't know much about them. I would like to get some fans opinions on some of your talents which will be competing in the tournament (in a non bias way if possible) to add into the article.

Obviously if there are players with more talent above, or players who maybe are not as big names but you think could make a name for themselves I would like to hear about them also as im not 100% sure who to put in it.

Thanks in advance

Jake
jeremy helan....he's quick hes got pace and hes fast

He's too old for NextGen

He was one to watch a few years back but hasnt really progressed. If he is to "make it" it certainly won't be at City

I have watched Evans for a while now and to be honest I am surprised that he seems to have stepped forward almost to the fringes of the 1st team squad. Not a bad player by any means but nowt special in my book and to make it as a pro footballer, never mind at City, you need to look a bit special playing at your age group.

The last game I saw him play was last week against PSG where to be honest he had a poor game.It wasnt just that he gave the ball away for their first goal and his head seemed to go down but more that he seemed to struggle with the holding midfield role he was playing.

To a significant extent he needs to run the game from there,be available all the time in support of the attacking players and to cover the right positions when we are under attack.Just didnt see it,looked lost at times.

What do you blues think of Jordi Hiwula?

I caught some highlights of him from the Middlesbrough match and though he looked excellent. How is he throughout the course of a match?

Two questions:

1 Does anyone know if Tom Smith is still on our books, he used to be 54 but Alex Henshall seems to have got that number now?

2 Has keeper Ian Lawlor played for the EDS - in which case what was his squad number?

Where's this from Pughie?

It would be great if Evans turns out to be the new Lake (if I could ask for one thing it would be a Mancunian boy breaking through and eventually becoming captain) but it's very premature to even think of that, he has a loooong way to go yet and could end up the next big thing or the next David Ball down the leagues.

He and Scott Kay are both part of the Huddersfield Development Squad (reserves) on short-term deals, Steve Eyre is giving them the chance as both are struggling to find clubs in the professional game (Kay was released by Macclesfield). Smith had trials with Chamois Niortais (French 2nd division) and Chester FC (non-league) and neither took him on, so Eyre must really be doing him a favour by giving him a chance with a Championship side. I hope it works out for both of them. I find it really sad when a former player of promise from our academy struggles to find a club. Ball is now at Fleetwood in League Two, a few years ago there was talk he would make the bench for the Manchester derby!

George played 30 minutes for England´s u19 he did well when he came on but they lost to Germany 3-1.
