I'm very excited about this appointment, he's always seemed like an inspiring leader and it must be good for the lads to be able to talk to someone who's been through it all.

I also agree that the eventual plan will be for him to potentially become our first team manager depending on how he does with the EDS, T&B are big on promoting within as it keeps the core values of the club intact.

AirFutbol: City have beaten Barcelona & Real Madrid to the signing of Sporting Gijón starlet Manu Garcia (15, MF) who is "similar to Xavi".
Nice. Might have to change his name at this club though;-)

Edit:
M. R. | GIJÓN .. -

Manu Garcia Cadet Sporting midfielder, who had already made the leap to the youth teams, despite having another campaign in its category, decided to accept the proposal of Manchester City, by the conditions he proposed the British club.

Manu Garcia, who will start next season in the basic equipment of the English club, accepted the proposal also includes a record amount for a scholarship and stay in a residence that Manchester City has contracted for promising young teams incorporated subsidiaries. In addition, the Asturian player will be able to perfect the English language.

The player's father was the one who notified the Sporting's decision this week, after rejecting the proposals of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

As the first season cadet, players are free, so in this case the Sporting only entitled to receive a portion of training rights when an application is first professional record.

I dont know a lot about the EDS players except for lopes and guidetti and it seems that we are buying more foreign players for the first team which makes me wonder if we have any british kids on the verge of coming through, does anyone know?

Emyr Huws is a strong candidate at EDS level as is George Evans. Greg Leigh also looks a good full back to me. Jack Byrne has just signed a professional contract at U18 level.

I think it will be, with the above exceptions, some years before top British talent comes through as it familiarises itself with one touch, technical, possession based football.

Last year during the pre-season tour in Austria, They brought along George Evans a Manchester-born Central MF, hes been playing with the U21s, Nextgens and U18s, I believe he made the bench for either a Ajax or Dortmund CL game away.

According to the annual report 77% of our academy is from Manchester or Greater Manchester.

Sorry to be pedantic but Jack Byrne isn't British.

Happy to be corrected. The OP asked specifically about the EDS and though it's true that the academy has a large number of British players, it is likely to be some time before they make the breakthrough into EDS and beyond. Exciting times though as many speak highly of the levels beneath EDS.
