MK Dons Under-16s put up a valiant effort on Monday night only to succumb to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, in the Club's fourth Academy Challenge Match.

A goal from Kabongo Tshimanga and brace from Giorgio Rasulo were not enough to earn Dan Micciche’s side a victory, in an entertaining match at stadiummk.

The Dons had been 2-0 up early in the match but the Premier League champions’ future stars showed their class and grabbed the victory in the end.

It was always going be a stern test for the Under-16s against a talented City team but the home side showed little nerves and flew out the blocks from start with great determination and scored with their first attempt on goal three minutes in.

Kyron Walsh whipped a great ball from the left which caused the visitors a whole load of problems allowing Tshimanga to poke home the ball ahead of Charlie Albinson in the City goal to give the Dons the lead.

After Tshimanga opened the scoring City came firing back with a chance of their own. Brandon Barker went speeding past the Dons defence only to be thwarted by the alertness of Ameil King who produced a good save.

King had to be on his toes once again twenty minutes in as Barker fired in a low drive but the Dons ‘keeper made another fine save to push the ball past his right hand post.

Five minutes later, though, the Dons doubled their lead thanks to Rasulo’s stunning curling effort which whistled into the top left hand corner from the edge of the area.
City then finally broke the stubborn Dons back line just before half time after Romero Coley’s cross weren’t dealt with and Gabriel Almedia was on hand to slot the ball in to bring his side back into the match at the break.

City came out for the second period eager to assert their authority and they showed their talent when grabbing the equaliser straight after the restart with Yvan Wassi’s menacing run down the left wing setting up Bersant Celina to finish up clinically.

Rasulo scored his second stunning goal 70 minutes in, unleashing a cracking effort into the corner of the net, after the Dons caught City napping with a counter attack.

However it wasn’t long until City were back on level terms once again. The Sky Blues’ free kick came cannoning back of the left hand post allowing David Brookes the simplest of tap-ins six yards out.

Brookes then doubled his tally and broke Dons’ hearts with only ten minutes left to play; producing a stunning free kick the Man City first team would have been proud of.

Despite the loss, the Dons’ Academy side will have every right to be proud of their performance after they were more than a match for their opponents.

For bluebanana- - Seen him a few times this year, the last time against Fen ?? the turks. The game passed him by a bit in the first half, however after the break started making the tackles and some good link play. He made the 1st team squad for Villa in the cup so doing ok I would say.

-- Tue Oct 09, 2012 3:40 pm --

Me and two mates, the bars open dont you know !

Sinclair playing for the EDS - has he been injured or just left out of the main squad? He's the only winger at the club, at some point I'd like to see him get a real chance.

Wish I could go tonight, enjoy the game all who are going.
