I know this has been done in the past but I haven't seen the question asked for a while...

Keen to get people's thoughts on where you all think the best pre match pubs and atmospheres are before home games these days? Thinking in terms of places where the drinking and singing really get going.

It's been a little while since I really got amongst it before going into the stadium, and I'm keen to do so for these next couple of games in particular (derby and champions league).

I know Mary D's has been the top recommendation of many for a while, that still the case? I'd be curious for people's best suggestions both close to the ground, and in the city centre.

Cheers!

There’s a hundred or more decent pubs in town but I doubt you’ll get a sing song in any of them unless you start it yourself.

Probably best sticking with Mary Ds if it’s singing you’re after.

Mary Ds is a shithole, always has been and always will be.

The northern quarter is full of blues pre and post match though not for a singsong (they sometimes break out though) but just to mingle

Hair n hounds will be rammed with blues as will turks head, wheatsheaf and some down thomas street, millstone will have karaoke probabaly ;-)
Cutting room square Jimmys and 7 brothers will have city fans and also cask

As I say not a load of theme pubs with watered down beer like Ds so if you want to sing along to a dj playing city songs Then Ds is the palce, if you want a beer in the company of blues mooch about NQ

NQ plus Ancoats for a good booze and kompany if your after singing try doing it when you get to your seat…… it might catch on
I wasn't drinking that day ( as I was meeting my daughter at a very civilised cafe in New Islington pre match) but Ancoats was certainly 'rocking' before the final home game of last season.
The fact we were being presented with the Premier League trophy, we had 2 finals to look foward to and it was a really warm day (it didn't rain either,WTF !!) probably helped.
Being of the FOC persuasion, I'm not sure my bladder could cope with going on the piss and then having to cope with the walk along the canal and then que outside ground if I'm honest though!!

Don't go Tib Street Tavern, bouncers are wankers that wouldn't let 3 of us in, and one was female, and they could tell we were Blues, never get a penny off me that place now

I enjoy the waldorf, nice vibe and walk to the tram to the Etihad. I usually go in the Townley after the game to let the traffic die down and then get the tram back into town
