The latest eruption from the Icelandic volcano at Holuhraun has lasted a week so far.

The lave field is 85 square km. The hill in the first picture is the lip of the volcano that has been built up since it started in August. The eruption has been continuously active undderneath a glacier but they think something new is happening now.

It's the biggest eruption for 500 years. That one caused a mini ice age in Europe and records show people died from the toxic gases released in France amogst other places. This is the same area in September:

Frank might well be staying until the end of the season.
 
I'm very interested in volcanoes, my personal favourite is Mount Mayon in Legaspi.
