The Popes visit to Britain.

Some of the comments on here i can imagine being massively offensive to Catholics.

Would a subject about a Muslim leader being slagged off to this extent be allowed to continue, i doubt it.

England........... anti Catholic since Henry VIII..

one who allows a bishop to continue his work after the most offensive comments he made ref the holocaust needs slagging.

I haven't got a problem with his visit or the cost to the taxpayer - there are plenty of other things that our money has been spent on that I would have more of an issue about.

However, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to understand how the Catholic Church continues to be held in such high esteem by so many people throughout the world in light of the continuing allegations of paedophilia and the numerous cover-ups by the hierarchy in the Catholic church. As I understand it, Pope Benedict himself has form for colluding in a cover-up when he was a cardinal.

When the abuses of priests in Ireland became known a while back, there were a few on here that understandably found themselves questioning their faith. Up until very recently, the Catholic church has had way too much power in Ireland. What went on over there was a disgrace and it didn't start and stop with sexual abuse either - there was plenty of physical abuse meted out to residents of the Magdalene Asylums too, and it's extraordinary to think that the last one only closed in 1996.

None of this is a dig at the hundreds of millions of Roman Catholics across the globe - my criticism is purely aimed at the people in the Catholic church that are either guilty of abuse or guilty of harbouring abusers. However, I can't understand why more Catholics around the world aren't up in arms about all this.

Thats fair enough mate and i agree to a certain extent. Its just when you say slagging off Hitler, Bin Laden and Saddam Hussain is extreme too, when of course its not. It just sounded like you were comparing The Pope to them three.
Which is obviously wrong.
