The positive thread.

was it such a disaster going out last night, lets face it, with our defence (except stones) we were never going to win the champions league and now we free dates up to catch up on league games with no distraction leading up to the semi final at Wembley and concentrate on 2nd place at the least.

we can win the fa cup as can all the teams left in it, if we did and finished 2nd I would be very happy, 12 months under pep with players getting to know his ways better and a defence bringing in this summer we can really push on.

we cannot keep missing as many chances as we do so hopefully that can improve, we will then be equipped to have a real go at the champions league next year and the premier league too

You can only have so many seasons treading water in terms of results, pep certainly gets more time due to it being his first season and his stature. The game is about the league and the champions league. At what point the owner starts to think he is doing his part but others aren't is open to conjecture. He has a lot of patience that's for sure.

nope. peps first season in charge, with a squad that isn't really his. cup semi final, last 16 in the champions league, top 4 finish. thats pretty good going so far. some of our fans have lost all sense of perspective, they want instant success and can't handle not winning now. if we dont win the league or the champions league its now a failure.... this is a long term project that needs time.

but then again i think these same fans that moan about everything didn't like pelle, mancini or hughes. haha

3rd in PL on goal difference, semi FAC, last 16 ECL (out on away goals to top scoring team in Europe) 6-0 up in FA Youth Cup semi, City Women Champions, Some of the most exciting young players in world football, with more to come and one of the best managers in world football.

good post.

We'll know in a week. It's not losing, it's losing just before the run of games we have. If this starts a run of losses that sees Liverpool and Arsenal gain points on us and we get knocked out of the FA Cup, then yes it's a disaster.

Personally, I'd be more than happy right now with top 3 and an FA Cup final appearance, so these are crucial weeks ahead.

Had we gone through, we'd have been up against Leicester, Barcelona, Madrid, Dortmund, Bayern or Juventus, so it's not too big a deal.

Things aren't in general, no. But 5-3 up and the tactics and personnel in last night's game as an individual game; yes it was an atrocious night for the club!

I feel as though Pep is playing catch up in terms of knowing this team/club and that's frustrating.

OR

He's pushing this squad to it's limits, trying to determine who can up their game to the top level and earn their place for the future, and actually he's a genius.

One of the two, can't decide.

None of us ever likes to see them lose so on that basis last night was bad. We also know that we will get a lot of shit in the media that we will now have to soak up, again on that level it is bad.
But most city fans, if they are honest, will understand what is going on at the club at the moment and just how good we could become once the players get fully behind what Pep is trying to get them to do. They have shown many glimpses of that and will only get better at it.
So not a good day today but certainly the possibility of some very good times to come.

Seen enough at times to think we are heading towards something special with Pep. Sane, Sterling and Jesus will keep getting better and no doubt Pep has the players identified to get us to that level and consistancy. So even though last night was gutting, i hope for much better next season.
