The Post Pep Blues?

More I think about this to be honest the worse I feel. It’s definitely up there as one of the saddest moments supporting the blues, including all the relegations.

I’ve been going since 84 and I’m struggling to think of a manager who last 4 years in charge, Pep has managed us for 20 percent of my life and provided so many magical memories to share with friends which will bond us forever.

On a human level he has also heavily influenced my outlook. Striving to be the best version of myself, be committed and give the best in whatever you do and don’t be scared to express opinions and beliefs even if it’s sometimes easier, for yourself, to keep them to yourself.

Im sure he has been thanked a million times, by so many people, but I’m pretty sad I won’t get to say it personally.

Probably shouldn’t have heroes at 50, but Pep was mine.

I said this to my lads yesterday as we walked away.

For all his brain farts (mad bald bastard) his ability to improve players to the level he did is something I think we will miss.

I feel exactly the same mate. Proper down in the dumps feeling!

Need those charges to come out positively for us to cheer us all back up.
 
What hit home seeing some of the ex players who were there in person was that every midfield player (Fernandinho, Yaya, Dave, KdB and Gundo) at their peak would walk into our current midfield and, if we had had just one of them fully fit this year, I think we would have won the league.
Our recruitment in midfield has not been great in recent years with Kalvin-Philips the biggest error of all. If we had found a better player who could have been trusted as a deputy for Rodri then the latter might not have been injured and the last two seasons could have been different.
Recent buys like Gonzales and Reinders have not convinced and I am not sure whether Rodri still wants to be at City and if Foden will become a consistent player. Cherki is a wonderful talent but too inconsistent at the moment.
We really need to get our recruitment right this Summer.
 
Grim. Just grim. So much depends on how we start next season. We have dipped recently and we dont feel as capable as we once were.
But if we look to the future signings... who is out there? Nobody stands out as a realistic 'must buy.

The only player we have brought in the last few years that has been a 'must' buy has been haaland, everyone else we have made and u might feel grim but why? I'll tell you why its cos u r spoilt and city have spoilt u, we have just won the double and were a couple of mistakes and shit refs from doing the treble, have the worlds best gk, the young player of the year at left bk, englands best cb and one of europes top perspective cbs, a balon d'or winning central midfielder, one of the most explosive left wingers in europe, one of the most creative and skilful players in europe at number 10, the pls 1st and 3rd top scorers up top and on the right, a number of players and one of our own who may well be rejuvenated by fresh ideas, a set of owners who will support the new guy with what he needs.

Most clubs would kill to be us but if u think its grim then by god u werent around in the early 2000s and even in those times we had a fucking laugh, suck it up buttercup.

I think gonzales has alot to offer and was one of our best players when given a run in the team, it must have been hard for both reijnders and Gonzales knowing that regardless of what they did next week theyd be on the bench.

I saw a post post Bournemouth, saying we were in a "sorry state". I couldn't believe what I was reading. A squad clearly in transition, yet we won the two domestic knockout cups, and took the title challenge to the 37th game. There's 18 other PL clubs who'd kill to be in that sorry state.

Firstly... grim was the feeling of losing pep.
Secondly I was around from mid 70s
Thirdly... I always want success for City. We may not always have it, but I always want the best for us. Staying at the top isnt easy but in order to do so (or attempt to do so) means recruiting well.

We arent competing with Luton anymore. We are competing with Real Madrid and Bayern.
It would be all too easy to play the 'oh the shit we endured in the past' card and claim anything else is a bonus but that is disrespecting the transformation made. We should be aiming never to return to that position again. In fact that really was a relatively small period of time in our entire history which is often thrown at us as 'where we came from' - it never was.

I will put your outburst down to emotion. There is a huge difference between spoilt and wanting to sustain us as one of the best clubs in Europe which is where we are now.
We have been well below our best all season and thankfully so have a number of other teams.
We won two trophies... great.
Those trophies count for nothing come next season. That is how Pep thought and its how all great managers have thought. It should be how we think as fans. We aim to win everything. We accept things sportingly if we dont manage it.

My outburst has nothing to do with emotion, everything ive said is facts not fiction, i will put ur response down to being spoilt and not seeing the positives that are clearly there as i pointed out.

3rd and 2nd in the last 2 seasons with 2 trophies and a couple of daft results away from a domestic treble all with a team in transition, i think our standards are quite good tbf.

The clue is in the thread title Post Pep Blues. It was always going to happen and its rational to wonder what happens after losing our greatest ever manager.

If we want to win the league next year and do better in CL we are going to have to recruit well. We have just lost two incredible players one of whom played a crucial part in this season. Replacing them will be tough... hence the comment about who is a 'must buy' out there and the choices are few. Very few.
Your personal insults are just emotion based on sweet FA and ignorance of other supporters' history.
I was around well before the 80s. A 'fact' you got wrong.
Spoiled? Maybe. Something wrong in wanting our success to continue?

We have evolved as a club and as a fan base. Yes we know we have been shit in the past but so have lots of teams. In truth we were only shit for a relatively small period compared with many others.
But times have changed. We have seen what is possible and enjoyed it to the hilt. That doesnt mean we should JUST be grateful and settle back down to our 'real level' as other clubs might suggest. In my opinion we are now at the very top tier of football and looking to stay there. That means being critical of ourselves and always looking to improve.

Losing Pep is an awful feeling but if we are going to stay at the top tier the work starts right now. Or... we just say 'well, it was great while it lasted'.
It was great... no reason it cant stay great... providing we dont let standards and expectations drop.
