Just picking up on this, I had a look at the stages for the first time today and my god it's one hell of a tour they've set up. I watch every year, but this one seems a real tough one! Just when you think they couldn't possibly do another mountain stage there's an even harder one to climb. It's going to be a monumental effort from the riders to get over all of the climbs that are coming. It's no wonder they're relaxing today! Lots of twists and turns to come, but it's been brilliant so far thanks to the great opening stages they've put on. Jumbo Visma have so much strength in their team that they will take some beating, because the GC contenders are going to need their teams big time!
 
Thought he had it when he went ahead, just to far out and let Philipsen use him to get to the finish. Gutted for Cav.
 
Gutted for him. Everything went for him, but he was possibly a bit too far back and had to expend energy to get level so burnt out. If he could have got a bit closer and then swung off and kicked he might have had enough. He was clocked early too so the response was instant. Still got the pace but maybe not the stamina. Keep going Cav! Hopefully he can win in Paris. Either way he's been a brilliant rider, but it would be an amazing story for him to end up as the outright stage winner.
