The arsehole of the country wishing I wasn't here
As the City transfer merry go round picks up speed and we get linked with more and more players, some serious, some just as a ruse to increase the price of the player by those oh so crafty agents, the one constant on this forum seems to be a priority of replacing Bridge at Left Back.

Now there have been several names mentioned from the top of my head that have appeared on these forums, Kolorov being the obvious one, but still see other names pop up now and again such as Maxwell and my own personal favourite of Philip Lahm of Germany.

The one constant in all these, including bridge, judging by peoples comments on here is that all of them are good going forward but going backward they are all accidents waiting to happen. If everyone believes this to be the case, and judging by the comments about them all it could well be then whats wrong with sticking with Bridge?

He is widely recognised as the 2nd best LB in the country and would be at the world cup if it wasn't for JT, and possibly only behind Cole and Evra in the Premier League.

Who would make the ideal left back?

Non of the ones you mentioned are worse than Bridge defeensively, and they're all miles better going forward, so I'd take any of them.

Then youve got David Luiz and Lescott, although one of them and Boateng as fullbacks could be a bit bland.

Pretty much all left backs are weaker defensively nowadays for some reason, unless they're just a left footed centre back.

Hate to have to agree but I think evra is the best lb in the world!!! If we could get him we would be unstoppable but never gonna happen!!

Ashley Cole would be good but we could never pry him away, although he is a first class mercenary who loves money.

Some other options:
- Luiz (Benfica)
- Lahm (Bayern)
- Bale (Spurs)
- Marcelo (Madrid)
- Maxwell (Barca)
- Chiellini (Juve, CB but good at LB)

All of them would be tough to sign though... might end up playing one of our own at LB like Lescott.

They are so many better left backs than wayne bridge because they are 1 quicker, better defensively, stronger and also better going forward and i can name at least 3 to 5 better than him.

1 Aly cissokho of lyon, young, quick, very strong, voted best left back in the champions league this year, has been able to keep quiet both ronaldo and robben in a recent years, cost lyon 15m euros so would cost at least 20m euros but would be worth as he is only 22 years old and has time to get even better.

2 chiellini is better as a centre back but could do a job there as he a much more solid defender than bridge but is lack of real pace could see him in trouble but i love his good positional sense but would cost at least 30m pounds.

I could go one but you have also david luiz and that contraro of benfica.

Why have all the rumours stopped about Luiz going anywhere? There have been some really quiet news days recently and no journo's are recycling this one? Has he signed for someone?

agree about lescott!! have heard a few on here saying he doesnt want to play left back and i admit him and vinny looked a bloody good partnership after a couple of games together but tough shit if hes asked to play there then he plays there!!!

Criscito (and not on the basis of his performance against New Zealand as I've only just turned the TV on) could be worth a punt.
I'd take David Luiz but he'd probably play predominantly as a CB if he signed I think, but good to have versatility.
Kolarov I've seen little of but looks good - same with Taiwo who for some reason has been dropped for Heinze at club level (Heinze is damn good though as much as i hate to admit it)
Cissokho who I have seen often would be an ideal signing. Can't see that though.
Lahm no chance.
Realistically I think if we choose to deal with this area the signing will be David Luiz/Chiellini.
