The Push, Murder on the Cliff.

We have just watched this 2 part trial case on C4. A really harrowing story about a horrible controlling fella who ended up murdering his own pregnant wife by pushing her off a cliff. I wont say too much as it really is worth a watch to see the evidence they collected against him. Her mother was so brave.
Spoiler alert!

No reflection on the verdict and a very unpleasant accused indeed - but fcking terrible defence barrister.
May not be "extreme enough circumstances", but verdict may be open to appeal on account of bad legal representation imo.
It’s certainly not an open and shut case. It basically hinged on what the wife said to the passer by and police officer. That being said, she said those things after suffering a head injury that killed her not long afterwards. It seems bizarre that that wasn't brought up by the defence.

On balance, I think they probably made the correct decision, but reasonable doubt could have been argued if the defence had been better.

Really good doc. The father of the accused was a proper piece of shit. He actually had the gall to express annoyance that he hadn’t yet got the wedding ring back from here family that he’d bought.

Have just finished watching this.

Not calling your client in a murder trial is always a huge shout, but it’s ultimately their call. No one is ever going to do that without unequivocal consent from the punter.

Didn’t think defence counsel was especially inspiring, but he wasn’t terrible, and certainly wasn’t working with great material.

Thought her family presented as lovely people, his were cunts, as was he. That’s why not giving evidence was a huge mistake by him imo. He needed to fess up to being a ****, but that he didn’t murder her. He was too far behind in points at half time to not give evidence.

I think society is definitely better off without him in it, irrespective of his guilt.

And would I have been sure enough to convict him? I believe I would.

An intersting watch. Identifying the accused from the witness box, especially noteworthy. That would never happen in England and Wales, for better or worse.

The victim seemed like a truly lovely person. RIP.
