William will make a better King but Charles has waited his whole life, he isn’t about to give it away, I don’t think.She commands respect across the world. Sadly Charles less so. I would love to see Charles say no and give the job as King to William in his prime. What a fine young man William is.

By the late 70s/early 80s it was actually OK for an aristocrats daughter to say no to being wed to the Prince of Wales. She/They were under no duress or pressure. What actually happened was a young woman, who was already damaged by her parents divorce, was coerced into it. Not just by the two families, but also her yearning for a 'fairytale.'
Diana had already showed signs of being in love with a 'fairytale' and yet those closest to her either ignored what was going on with a very naive young girl, or didn't actually care in case it thwarted their own ambition.
