The real Chorlton

Can see on this map here how Chorlton-on-Medlock (or Chorlton-upon-Medlock or originally Chorlton Row) was bigger than Hulme, Moss Side and Ardwick yet it’s just seen as an estate these days and has been engulfed by those three districts.

Parts have also been lost to Longsight and Rusholme and the city centre.

Most Manc friends were born in Crumpsall. NMGH.

I was born at Withybush in Haverfordwest, South Wales. If we’re using the ruler rule then I’m a Swansea Jack.
I was born in Chorlton-on-Medlock at St Mary’s Hospital.

Is it a generational thing? I think there was a maternity ward at the MRI on the Wilmslow Road too. Honestly, when friends talked about where they were born, they all seemed to be born in Crumpsall.
More likely a location thing. NMGH is quite a long way away for people in South Manchester when your missus is in labour.
