The return of Gareth Barry

I just hope it isn't a false dawn. Over the years for Villa he has always went in patches of brilliance to shocking. It is the way he can play well for 8 games then when you think we have a top notch midfielder then he can have a run of 8 games were you question his ability. With the players at the club and a new boss he will have to keep it up he is one of our experienced midfielders at the club even if he is 28 there are only Petrov and Paddy V who are older than him but he will play more games than the other 2. With the teams we are playing I would expect Barry to boss the midfield but when the opponents are better he tends to crumble a bit.
 
Barry started the season as a defensive midfielder who could make a pass, for a number of games he looked what he is, a quality player, then he was swapped from attacking to defensive midfield almost every game, and to me it looked like he had no idea what he was meant to be doing, since Mancini arrived he's had the one role, and surprise surprise he looks quality again.

Last night every time De Jong won the ball, Barry was available, and he passed to a city shirt about 90% of the time, it wasn't his form that was the problem, it was what he was being asked to do.
 
I hope I am wrong about Barry but what I see is a busy but very limited player with zero vision and very slow reaction times. He's adequate I guess but IMO too "dozy" for the pivotal role of CM. Ireland has the vision that Barry lacks but perhaps is too lightweight. DeJong is the best destroyer but has minus vision (can see into the past).

It'll be interesting I think to see how it all pans out, especially with Viera onboard and Kompany about.

(And again I hope I'm wrong and Barry impresses me over the rest of the season. Just isn't so far.)

Mate you hear shit like that all the time, clueless twats. They're the same idiots who were slagging De Jong off last season cos when he wins the ball he passes it straight away instead of making David Beckham or Gerrard type passes
