The 'Richard Edghill' dilemma

I can't believe this Edghill thing is being dredged up now! He was a promising player who never fulfilled his potential. I lost count of the number of times he tried to pass the ball "through" the opposing player, always a fraction too late, and his throw-ins were hopeless. So frustrating. Royle kept faith with him when it was obvious to most people that he was never going to make it. A loyal player? Probably.

I am sure there are quite a few City fans and likely a large slice of the Bluemoon massive who never saw Richard Edghill play, or indeed know who Richard Edghill is.

Well he was a local lad (Oldham iirc) who came through the ranks at City during the very barren years. He loved and still loves City and is as Blue as any of us.

He was a player of great potential whose City career disintegrated in front of the Kippax, and in my humble opinion that disintegration was aided by and perhaps even magnified because of the boo boys of Maine Road.

It was one of only a handful of times in my life where I was honestly ashamed of the way that City fans behaved.

It was particularly hurtful as it was obvious to anyone there that the treatment that some fans doled out to him brought him quite literally to tears.

Strangely there was a time when a local player would have been backed all the way and encouraged even in the worst of times but I wonder if we have now moved beyond that as a club?

Are we now at a stage where a City manager simply has to buy talent for the first team rather than blood a youngster for fear of a bad performance and the fans turning on a young lad?

Are we, the City faithful grown up enough to back a manager if he tries a player who doesn't shine from the very first minute, or would we turn nasty because so much now depends on every game, on every point?

I do hope that some of the players that the club are developing are given the opportunity to make their debut's in league games and not just the early stages of the League Cup as that will mean that the club is in a way back to its roots and traditions.

I truly do wonder what others on here think.

(And if you are reading this Richard, I am truly sorry for the way you were treated by some at City.)

Really glad you raised this point Fbloke especially as some people side stepped it when I put in as example in ''Us the fans''

The top and bottom of this is that its a city fans agenda to have a boo boy Dzeko springs to mind, Jo before him.

Always amazes me they are wearing the blue shirt, they didn't ask to come we asked them to play for our great club but because some deem them as shit, we boo them or slate them.

We should just get behind them boo and slag them off when they are gone.

what i remember about nicky summerbee is his dad persueded someone at city to pay swindon 1.75 million for him at a tyime when we could of got 2 decent players.

i can remember booing him

the other thing that sticks in my mind was watchin summerbee play right back ,right winger ,take corners on the left and being expected to pick the ball up from our goalie seemed a bit harsh to boo him when he scored ,was he that bad?

no, he wasn't that bad he was just a bad piece of business at 1.75 mill and it hurt!

Paul Power too....... boo'd to fuck
Absolutely, no wonder he fucked off and won the League with Everton.
My dad had a right run in with a fellow city supporter in the North Stand, the bloke was calling Power a lazy bastard. The bloke must have been blind and stupid, always put in a shift and blue through and through.
Colin Barrett,Ged Keegan and Kenny Clements also victims of the boo boys, who were driven out imo.
Saw a bloke leathered for daring to slag off Colin Bell, the North Stand again.
No wonder we did one to the Kippax.
