As people are unhappy with the RNLI for *checks notes* saving people from drowning, I thought it would be useful to gauge support for the Govt proposal for making it illegal for the RNLI to *checks notes for second time* save people from drowning.

First time I’ve done a Poll, so no idea if this will work or not :)

The RNLI’s mission is to save anybody in trouble at sea. It is not their fault that international politicians are incompetent in preventing people trafficking. End of. RNLI is a charity, no government funding, the crews are unpaid. They have put their lives at risk to help others for generations no matter what their politics, religion, race or creed. They rely totally on donations, fundraising, legacies. They do a great job. Vent anger elsewhere.

Politicians are actively complicit in people trafficking. The UK has made it increasingly difficult to seek asylum in this country which enables the traffickers.

They have also proposed making it illegal to help anyone in distress that is seeking asylum, ie the RNLI.

I assume we can put you down as an option 1 vote?

With the law change, will they be required to racially profile the faces of people whilst their heads bob above water?

Or will they be tasked with interviewing suspected illegal aliens to detect a forrin accent/lack of English and throwing them back overboard?

Tricky one, perhaps each boat will have a dedicated political officer assigned to it and assess who should be saved. Women and children will be left behind I imagine, a burden to the state and hard working tax payers under new Home Office rules.

They just need really big signs on the French coast saying "don't tell anyone you're asylum seekers, claim that you are boating enthusiasts in trouble". That way, clearly no-one will have reasonable cause to believe them to be asylum seekers, and the law doesn't apply!

I can't see many people wanting to prosecute a case for this in court.

Excellent idea, maybe the French can hold lessons in passing yourself off as a holiday maker. Bucket and spade for the kids, teaching key phrases, “Two Haddock and Chips, mate!”, “A pint of Theakston’s Old Peculiar for the trouble n strife!”

That will fool the commissars. GB News viewers will be watching like hawks. “Press the red button to throw them back into the sea!” It will be the only option of course.

This goes completely against the normal fishing rule that you throw the younger fish back into the water to enable it to grow. These heartless bastards (and I'm being as polite as I can) in power now want to throw the entire catch back in.
Unfortunately, we are not talking about fish. THESE ARE HUMAN BEINGS, and should be treated as such, with dignity and respect. I wonder how Patel would have felt if her family had been refused entry into the UK all those years ago?
The RNLI do a brilliant job, unfunded, in all weathers, and have my utmost support for the job they do willingly.

To be fair, she's made herself an excellent advert for doing just that.

Just another moronic idea from the government, with absolutely no thought put into the practical implications, as everyone above has pointed out. If the RNLI are reluctant to save people at sea for fear of prosecution, British people will die, not only asylum seekers.
