Im inclined to be laid back when it comes to puns. I used to love the pun of the day on the Big Breakfast.

You don't need to put the relevant pun in bold letters. It ruins it, it looks contrived.
I'd also add that when a pun war is taking place a sensible posts just looks odd. Everyone scans it to look for the pun they think they've missed.
A bit like this one, really.
