Very lazy journalism by twats who look at the song titles like heaven knows... and girlfriend in a coma and tag it misery and doom without actually listening to the lyrics.

No I think it was in connection with that chapter in a book he did with Johnny Marr.

Yeah it was from a book, Football Fans Meet their Hero's, or something like that. So Marr got to meet Pep, not Pep seeking out a his rock idol. the only mention of music in what I read was that Pep asked Marr to sign an Album that he'd just been given. Marr said "I don't want to see it on Ebay".
And no mention from Pep on any actual Smiths material or reference to having ever heard it which would be strange if he was a fan.
Oh and his picture With Marr is shown him with a blank t-shirt, so the Smith one had to have been given later. I think it's a case of big rock star and City fan wants to meet Pep, and Pep says "why not?" and does it. Good PR.
