Wow they made a film out of a myth!
It never happened.... This kid did go to the radio station with a gun with the intention of having the DJ play The Smiths but in the car park he shat himself, realised he needed help and called the police on himself and he was sectioned. The story got out in a newspaper and then as it was picked up elsewhere it became reported as he did hold up the radio station and forced the DJ to play Smiths tunes....

You have to ask yourself though mate, how is it he has a large number of people who do spend their spare time slagging him off? I am not aware of any other "musician" - in the loosest possible sense - who invokes such a reaction. A 1 minute Google, reveals this sort of thing:

"Should be drowned, now, fast; to make up for not doing it at birth."

"The turd is a ****, a talentless useless ****. All of his fans are cunts and anyone who buys his solo music is a total thunder ****. I would piss on him if he was on fire, but not enough to put out the flames."

He's in a class of his own. I think what annoys me about him more than anything is that of course he's a wanker, we know that, but he is so utterly devoid of talent, and yet people cannot see it. More than that, they actually rave out him. Incredible.

Of course we have people like Rylan Clark-Neal - another talentless wanker, but no-one raves about him or has a thread about how wonderful he is. Keith Lemon, Terry Christian, Piers Morgan etc - there's plenty of them. But no-one combines such uber-cuntishness with being such a total talent vacuum, and at the same time is adored. Bizarre and very, very annoying.

How many of his 12 solo studio albums have you listened to?
You seem to be a heavy critique so assuming you just arent commenting having seen him twice on Top of the Pops 30 years ago

Serious answer: None.

That said, I have heard many of his songs on the radio over the years, and never heard anything with any redeeming musical quality whatsoever, none. So I am uninclined to voluntarily subject myself to anything more. I find his tone monotonous and droning, and often out of tune, specifically, flat. The chords are banal and the lyrics worse. I think he's absolutely fucking awful, and how anyone can like the utter dross he churns out is quite beyond me.

But hey ho - you like it, so again that's fine by me.
