The stadium should be named

The City of Manchester stadium is fine; representing where we're from, unlike the rags.

Every time COMS is mentioned on here or elsewhere, it kind of sounds wrong. So does 'Eastlands'.

Think of the great teams in Europe: The San Siro; The Bernabeu; The Nou Camp. These are names that inspire a certain awe. Even 'The Emirates' sounds good.

COMS or Eastlands doesn't sound that great. We need a The............. name for the stadium. We are moving into a great new era and our stadium should have an awesome name.

My suggestion: The Mercer Stadium.

I think we need something like that.

They may SOUND good, but Camp Nou means New Field, the Santiago Bernabeu is named after a fascist former president and the San Siro would translate as Saint Cyril!!!!!!

Exactly. Just because it sounds mundane to us doesn't mean it does to others especially abroad. I mean Sunderland naming theirs "The Stadium of Light" is a bit pathetic really... Trying far too hard on something that should just say what or where it is, unless it's a sponsor's name, so The City of Manchester Stadium or Eastlands is just fine.

Personally I have struggled with the change of stadium and was still calling it Maine Road for quite a while after, but have settled on "Eastlands" since it rolls of the tongue easier than "The City of Manchester Stadium" and I hate the name"COMS"!

But time will tell what name will finally stick, if we do indeed stick to this stadium and don't build a new one!?

How does City Of Manchester Stadium come out in Spanish, Italian etc????

'El Estadio de la ciudad de Manchester' in Spanish, no idea in Italian.

I like Athletico's stadium name, El Vicente Calderon. It sounds like 'cauldron', and puts images of a bubbling, fiery atmosphere in my mind.

But again, it's the name of a former club president!

I haven't got a problem with my roots. I refer to it as the council house. The irony is what was a slur aimed at us by RAGS is now back firing. Inverted snobbery works for me. Richest club in the world and we live in a stadium owned by the people of Manchester. I dont think it gets much better than that.

The San Siro is one of the iconic stadiums in Europe.
Except San Siro is the name of the district in Milan, the stadium is situated.
It's actually called Guiseppe Meazza
Not quite as catchy !

I didn't say it wasn't iconic, I implied that whilst it sounds pretty cool, it translates as "Saint Cyril", a name which is outdated at best in this country, and would be laughed at out of context. It'd be like calling the COMS, Beryl Stadium.

As an aside, surely the best stadium name on the Planet is the Estadio Azteca, in Mexico City?

too mamulty's reply that was deleted......

Sorry mate - think you just dropped your tampon there.

And why would I, being male, have a tampon?

Or is that just meant to be rude snigger, snigger?

Either say something worth saying or keep your (deleted) mouth shut, (deleted).

Definately right up there.
Must say I've always liked the Estadio Maracana in Rio.
A ground which was capable of holding 200,000 in the 1950's
And since it's renovation two years ago, is once again a superb ground.

Maybe. But no amount of abuse directed at you could ever be described as unnecessary.

Stop stalking me, you creepy little tosser.
