The Stand Up If You Love City Unofficial BM Campaign

Wonder what the kicked out threads will be like on Tuesday?

The letter saying policy to tolerate standing in certain blocks (when they evicted whole rows to stop this and just seemed to give up) seems farcical.

I'm not sure I was aware it was official policy to allow standing in some areas..

Considering most of the songs are started by the group of lads at the back of 110/109(not sure), they certainly aren't going to sit down. It's all going to end in tears.
I'm at the back of 110. I'm not sitting down, you can be sure of that. Surely Fletcher is aware that 110 is pretty much 111 overflow, in that 111 is limited in capacity so the singing section unofficially incorporates 110. Pretty much everyone who is in 110 is there because they want to be part of the atmosphere, sing and stand. I know that is applicable to me, and it's what makes it the best part of the ground.

Mr Fletcher: Good luck getting us to sit. You're gonna fucking need it.

As a season ticket holder in 110 I find it hard to believe that Mr Fletcher(once again) and City have had numerous complaints about fans in that block constantly standing.

In fact, I would go as far as saying it's a complete and utter lie. Everybody around me loves to stand and sing. Not only that, everyone loves doing the Poznan as well. No doubt the whole of 110 feels the same way. So where on earth Peter Fletcher get's this idea from that numerous people in that block are unhappy about other fans standing is beyond me.

Another point. If City want the fans to create a batter atmosphere, how is this going to happen with the club forcing fans to sit down once again, as well as throwing them out of the stadium and taking their season tickets off them? (We've taken your season ticket money now f***off!)

What about the Poznan? In May of this year the club were selling Poznan t-shirts for the FA Cup final.(Let's promote it, push it and make a few quid out off it) Now they're trying to kill it along with standing and the atmosphere.

Sit down, stand up, do the Poznan after the goal, sit down again, and stay seated

Good one. I don't think so. Get real Mr Fletcher. Do you seriously and honestly think that is going to happen?

It will be insteresting to see how Mr Fletcher and City deal with this. Are they going to get Showsec to do their dirty work for them once again(Have City not learnt any lessons from last season regarding Showsec?), or are they going to get the City stewards to do it? Will it be the odd steward or will it be the usual heavy handed 4 or 5 stewards forcing a single fan off the terraces, while all the other fans around them still stand and sing?(naughty)

Mr Fletcher and City. I'm sure like me the other people in block 110 are more than happy to stand and sing. We're more than happy to do the Poznan as well. You were more than happy to take my/our £500 off us for a season ticket. If you're once again going to force me and other fans to sit in block 110, why didn't you include the said letter in my/our season ticket gift packs, so I/we knew what to expect, instead of finding it out second hand via Blue Moon?(very poor)

Here's an idea Mr Fletcher. If you want to engage with the fans, come down from your control box on Monday night, talk to us as a group and tell us why we aren't allowed to stand again. Oh, and be truthful.

I can't be arsed starting a campaign. I'm sure the fans on the terraces will make their feelings known on Monday night.

Letter Received today from MCFC:

Persistent Standing: Important Notification fro the 2011 -12 Season

Withe the new season fast approaching, we are currently reviewing our safety procedures in time for our opening game against Swansea City on Monday 15th Aug 2011, one area of the match day experience which requires our attention is the number of complaints that the club received in the last year relatng to persistent standing by supporters in some sections of the Stadium.

As you will no doubt aware, the club implemented a policy to tolerate standing in a number of blocks, predominantly in the south stand and then more recently to include the Singing section in block 111.

This was in direct response to the request of the supporters in those areas, many of whom had elected to purchase seats in these blocks for that specific reason. as I am sure you will appreciate, there has to be a limit to the area's in which we can allow persistent standing. The club has received numerous complaints regarding persistent standing in the block in which you are seated. (I'M IN 110)

We wish to make our match days enjoyable an experience as possible for all or our fans and, as such, we wrte to kindly request that yu and fellow supporters in your block remain in your seat for the majority of the match.

FANS WHO REFUSE TO SIT WHEN ASKED BY A STEWARD AND/ OR WHO PERSISTENTLY STAND, RUN THE RISK OF BEING EJECTED FROM THE STADIUM AND, IN SOME CASES, MAY HAVE THERE SEASONCARD CONFISCATED!!

Please help us to avoid such measures by co-operating with the request and help us to create an enjoyable experience for all of our fans!

Peter Fletcher
Head of Safety and Security

Have you copied that letter or scanned it? If you have copied it I can let the typing errors go but if you have scanned it then City need to get someone who can a) type and b) spell!!

As for Mr Fletcher I have had occasion to ask for assistance from him twice and have found him to be courteous and helpful. I am not saying he hasn't been the opposite to others, I just speak as I find.

Neither.

That's how it was originally posted on the Swansea thread.

Never had the honour of meeting Mr Fletcher, but neither have most supporters. There are one or two senior officials at City who meet the fans on a regular basis. Mr Fletcher isn't one of them.

Considering how important his job is and the impact it has on the fans, it would be nice if Mr Fletcher started talking to the fans at OSC branch meetings and other such meetings, where he could put the clubs side across, but also listen to the fans and understand their concerns and frustrations.

As it is, he remains an enigma, and will do so until he begins an open dialogue with the fans.

As I said in the other thread I can't confirm the letter as I have yet to receive it and I am also in Block 110.

We're (2x season ticket holders) are in 110 so we can stand, if we wanted to sit we would of chose many of the other areas of the ground were everyone sits.... But we didn't

Fletcher seems a Rag to me, it's about time they used their resources and brought SAFE STANDING into The Etihad.

Safe Standing has been shown to be effective and safe.

Obviously the seats would be Blue :)

City seem to be getting everything right. Right?

We won our first trophy in a few generations. We're now signing players at the Kun Agüero level (unbelievable!) and we're raising our profile around the world. MCFC is on the way to be in it's best position, ever. Brilliant, yes.. no?!

Hang on a minute, why would that even be in doubt? Well, have a look inside the stadiums around Europe. Look at the BundesLiga, look at Sevilla and Atlético in Spain, look at Greece and Turkey. Stadiums PACKED and bouncing with colour, culture, style and flair. Even look at Celtic. Christ even look down the leagues at places like Stevenage and even at Conference level. Fans are up on their feet and making great noise surrounded by great colour. This is what football is all about. Even change sports and go to The Halliwell-Jones Stadium and look at Warrington RLFC fans too..

But then look inside the Etihad Stadium on matchdays. 75% (if not more) of the stadium are sat down queitly, if not in total silence; fans are being turfed out for smoking, even though they've never smoked a cig in their life; fans being turnfed out (leaving his Nan on her own in the stand) because he kicked a ball up in their air that had been kicked into the stand during the warm up; fans being told to sit down; fans being told to stop swearing; a saturation of cheese all over the place that is making many cringe; an area set aside for vocal fans that totals about 3000 (The Kippax once held 30000+! Over TEN TIMES more! And we're trying to obliterate our success from them times on the pitch, but why not in the stands?); and now letters sent out to fans basically telling them not to dare enjoy themselves...

I don't need this shit! All I need is a place to stand, sing, jump about, shout me head off (but I like a good view so don't want to do this in the puny efforts the club has set aside in places with lesser views of the game than I have in 105!) and enjoy myself while watching the football club I love. But why is it I enjoy away games more than home? If there was a choice of home and away seasoncards and you could only have one, I'd choose the away one and never go to the Etihad!

City, I put this straight to you - you're making it difficult for THOUSANDS of fans who want and think the same as me. It's shite, the way you go about this sort of stuff, truly shite! What the fuck is going on? How much power the this ex-pig **** Fletcher have at the club over everyone? Is he a Rag? He's definately showing that typical police trait of acting like a total **** constantly in the manner of someone who was bullied at school and is now taking that hurt out on everyone he can, all whilst hiding away somewhere in the depths of the club where nobody can ever see or speak to him like a complete coward. For me he's bad news, he's putting a bad name on MCFC. Who is he?!

City will not be the best club in the world, regardless of how good we are on the pitch, if we aren't matching that excellence in the stands. Are Borussia Dortmund more famous for being German champions or for having the die Südtribüne? Are Liverpool more famous for winning trophies or for The Spion Kop? It's close isn't it?! Now, are City more famous for winning the FA Cup or for The South Stand (what a truly boringly shite name and it's almost laughable I ask that question!)? Do City ever wonder why we're not selling all our seasoncards (isn't there 280 left?), do they ever wonder why we don't sell out cup games or even Prem games? Do they REALLY think selling Loyalty Points is the answer? This is basically bribery! To be honest I disagree with it enitrely, but I feel I have to pay the extra if I'm to keep up with everyone. But this isn't the way City! Give fans a proper stand like the die Südtribüne or the Kop, give City fans a stadium that's bouncing every week, give City a stadium that intimidates away teams and fans..and I GUARANTEE you'll see sell outs every week, no matter what competitin or what round!

This season, I think the board members [including Fletcher!] need to stop coming to the Etihad at times and going to watch Borussia Dortmund v Bayer Leverkusen, going to watch Sevilla v Atlético, going to watch Besiktas v Galatasaray, going to watch Olmpiacos v POAK [these aren't even derby games!]... spend some time taking in the sights, sounds, capacity crowds, noise, atmopshere, singing, jumping, dancing, colours, culture of FOOTBALL. Fucking hell, even go and watch Barrow v Kidserminster. People at City need educating on what a football atmopshere, a proper football experience, is because they do not know what it is!

I'm sure at all levels of the club there are the best people working there who the club want: Mancini, Kompany, Agüero, Kidd, Lombardo, Cook, Alex Willams, the bloke at ManC Mag, the bloke running the OS... but have we got the best people we can get in world football to create and improve atmopshere and the stadium? and if we do then why are their hands tied so tightly behind their backs?

City...it's not on! Get it sorted!

Fantastic Post

Great post.(up there)

Now you see it. Now you don't. Another block(of singers) forced to sit down and/or thrown out. So we're down to one block standing and singing on the Kippax. (and no, you can't sing while sitting)

manchestercity_photo.jpg

If Mr Fletcher get's his way, no doubt aided by MCC and their licensing committee, we will have lost what we've built up over the last 2-3 seasons, especially after the Europa League games and the Poznan game.

Get ready for a CL's morgue, where opposing teams and away fans will enjoy playing at a stadium with little or no atmosphere.

PS. Mr Fletcher. Make sure you tell the players why the singing section is now sat down and no longer singing.

im in 110 also and not recieved this letter, but if it is real then the stewards are gonna need all the luck they can get in making us sit down. they tried it last year with 109 and failed so it isnt goin to happen this year. unless they want to chuck a whole block out of the ground
