The Steve Coppell/Phil Neal months

Forget the division 2 season, this period was the club's darkest hour. We were the laughing stock of football. It was quite incredible as a fan what a state we were in as a club.

I talked to Coppell in the player's lounge after his last game at Swindon. I suspect that he is a bright man and he worked out pretty quickly that Lee was an idiot and the club was fucked.

I suspect the rumours are just that, rumours.

He was in charge in the 1st division, not the 2nd.

I hate it when someone posts pretty much what you were thinking of posting, rendering your contribution pointless. Cheers DD! :-)

Although clearly not good enough to be a manager, Neale carried himself with much dignity I thought. Nice man.

Anyone ever asked Andy Dibble what he thought of Neale - I know Neale accused Dibs of knifing him in the back after a couple of f*** ups

Coppell, Frontzeck, Machin, Fashanu, Bishop, Morley.................
Does anyone come out of the closet nowadays or is it our changing room?

Wolves 3

Man City 0

Caretaker boss Phil Neal exploded in fury last night after sad City were sabotaged by a blunder by stand-in keeper Andy Dibble.

Dibble, who replaced the injured Martyn Margetson after only 40 seconds, boobed to give Wolves their first goal after less than a minute of the second half.

Instead of grabbing the ball when Kit Symons sliced his clearance, Dibble launched a desperate kick - and dropped City in the mire.

He could only send the ball a few yards, allowing Robbie Dennison to aim a right-wing cross which was headed in from close range by Iwan Roberts as Dibble tried to regain his ground.

Neal declared angrily: "It was like being stabbed in the back by a knife!

"I just don't know what Dibble was thinking about, because the referee couldn't possibly have judged it a back-pass from Symons when he scuffed his effort. Dibble has been in the game long enough to work that out for himself.

"It cost us a goal, and it probably cost us the game.

"I had warned my team that Wolves were bound to step up the pace following the interval.

"So what happens? Forty seconds gone, and we find ourselves trailing."

This defeat, wrapped up by a second goal from Roberts plus a superb third by Dennison, sinks the Maine Road crisis club another place in the First Division table.

They now slip to fourth from bottom - and after only one win in six games, Neal must be wondering how long he will survive in charge. He snapped: "There is no change in my situation at the moment. I intend to carry on until someone tells me to stop.

"I have regular conversations with chairman Francis Lee, but the subject of those conversations is private.
