The Stones & Silva Pop up Pub

I go to The Smiths disco there and let me tell you, it really really isn’t the most salubrious boozer in Manchester. I think they filmed Brassic in there as well.
The scene in Jimmy Grimble when a rag walks in to the pub full of City fans wearing a rag shirt and walks out unscathed was filmed at the S&G

What a brilliant idea. Is it my imagination, but wasn't there some of tv show — maybe stand-up comedy or something like that — that was broadcast from there by Granada? This would be absolutely donkey's years back, 60s or 70s. I've never set foot in the place, but the name's very familiar from my youth in south Manchester.
Are you thinking of the Golden Garter? Club in Wythenshawe that hosted a lot of big showbiz names in the era you're talking about and Granada definitely broadcast stuff that was recorded there.

Star and Garter was in a sorry state of repair in the 80s and (I think) was closed for a while. It established itself as a music venue in the early 90s.

Just got back from there and it’s decent the way they’ve done it up…didn’t get a free beer though and I doubt there were 100 people in before me :-(
