The "Swales Out" Campaign

my personal memery of swales out was walking home down yew tree road after match wearing my 93 home shirt with 9 lee on back and all the cars stuck in traffic beeping and cheering at me for what I had on back i was only 12 but my older brother taught me why we wanted him out and franny in

Also I remember a priest or vicar screaming on the Kippax and getting bit of media attention. What was the deal there was he a real man of the cloth because he was very angry for a man meant to be at one with god

i think that had mother teresa herself been a season ticket holder on the kippax at that time, she herself would have egged swales after shouting "for fuck's sake city, one of you, what a load of bollocks. SWALES OUT!"

All this nostalgia is great.......but crumbs i am old enough to remember it all and my wrist are only just healing.

I cant bare to read a lot of it. Very sad and upsetting. Whats that saying?..
" IF I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW" and all that!

I like to look back at lots of things, but a huge part of City's past aint one of them.

Forward with the Sheikh, onwards and upwards!

That article has reminded me Adie Mike used to play for us!!

And people complain about Jo.

The number of managers we got through with Swales is astonishing and hopefully, unlikely to be repeated any time soon. The story concerning Reid's departure makes for interesting reading.

I think we played a match on telly under Reid and after a memorably poor performance by Keith Curle, we ended up getting beat. The post-match interview was conducted where Reid, visibly anger after defeat, was prodded and pushed by the interviewer about Curle's poor performance.

I think what was asked was along the lines of, "Does a performance like this justify the £2.5M spent on Curle?"
Anyway, Reid had had enough. He responded with something like, "Hang on a minute, we paid nowhere near that amount of money for him".

Of course, the figure Swales was putting about in public was not accurate. This outburst cost him his job and cost us the years of stability that we craved (at least I think that's what we wanted). After the interview, Swales phoned Reid at his home at 3 in the morning, pretty much telling him he'd be gone the next time we got beat. And that was the end of Peter Reid.

He was also not averse to put false rumours into the local press about players we were 'in for' - Dean Saunders springs to mind.

And lest we forget some of the attendances at Maine Road when many of the turnstiles were cash only.

Also the manner in which Reid was sacked was particulary spineless.

Having grown up near where Peter Swales lived, I will never personally slag him off as I know many people who benefited from his generous attitude to City fans, especially some of my friends down the years, who, as teenagers, thought the world of him.

He had City in his heart, and as youngsters, when we got to Wembley, I know he was genuine in getting friends tickets after they had failed in the official channels.

I saw him in Hale a few days before he died, his face was purple, he was shuffling along looking awful, and, yes, I felt for him.

I know how much City meant to him. It was, to me at least, a real shame he had to leave the club he loved so much under the circumstances he did.

I can't find it in myself to slag him off, as I said. I have too many warm memories of his time in charge when we were teenagers, and he helped us out.

I thought it was time for him to go, but that last look I had of him in Hale really did shake me to the core.

Well quite a few are unescapable facts.

Coppell took us down the table and resigned and Joe Royle stepped in and nearly rescued us.

I'm certainly not a conspiracy theorist.[/quote]

Im not a conspiracy theorist either but after just 6 games (2 wins 3 loses & a draw) & only 33 days its not usually time to quit is it?
