the tide of change

I remember a few years ago, Utd Plc were beating Porto 4-0 at home in the Champs League on a Tuesday night, and we were getting beat away at Portsmouth in the Championship (I'm 99% sure it was Portsmouth but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!). The irony wasn't lost on me at the time, as it summed up the difference in fortune of the two teams in the mid 90's.

But last night struck a similar chord too, except in our favour!

I know it was a friendly, etc etc etc, but no-one beats Barcelona at the nou Camp, regardless of what team they put out - in my opinion, a fantastic result for us, both in Spain and at Turf Moor.

Also, do you remember when we played some micky mouse cup game at maine road against mansfield I think, the scum played a european game at home on the same night as us. A picture on the back page of the mirror showed both grounds, I think we had about 8000 and they had 50000. Memory not brilliant but I am sure someone will fill in the gaps. Would of been nice to see the pictures of the grounds last night and the results. City 94000 at barca and 20000 at burnley.....THE TIDE HAS CHANGED.........

That match was probably the lowest point of my often miserable 39 years following City. It was Auto-windscreen Trophy, back then it was equivelant to Champions League!!! At least it was in my head! Cant remember why i even travelled the 140 miles up but after the 3rd goal of a 3-1 home defeat went in, i can certainly remember for the 100th time saying never ever ever again.

Trouble is ive said it at least 100 times again since.

I love this club!

Heh, heh. You and me both. I remember when the Gills scored their second I wanted to slash my wrists, I was so f*****g despondent.

There's been loads of times I've thought to myself: "Right, that's it! Never ever again will I pay good money to have my emotions put through the wrangler like this." And the worst part of it all is that when I said it to myself, I ACTUALLY believed it. Then of course, you start to miss the cameraderie, the good-natured banter, the warm beer and the pies, the fat guy with overpowering B.O. that I always seem to end up next to, and then I think: "Nah. This is what supporting City is to me. I can no more stop doing this than I can stop breathing."

It's a unique situation being a City fan.

i m very excited at the prospect that we might actually do something but as somebody in my late 40's i have had plenty of false dawns and won t actually unless and untill we WIN a couple of titles and European cups. Some of the giddyness on here is frankly embarrassing and you re giving the rags more ammo should it go tits up.

We beat barca in a friendly, nice to say we ve won in the camp nou but ffs it s a friendly.

We beat blackburn but on another day they might have scored three.

Yes we are potentially onto something very good like probably never before but bite your tongues untill that time hopefully happens.

I beleive that some City fans are frightened to be optimistic because of past false dawns, I have seen a few in my time, but some how this one will be different (just like the other ones)

we just want to shut the red fuckers up, its not often we do it ,but i dont care what we win or dont win, i would never and i mean ever, bring myself to support that lot.... i hate them, not becoz they win things, but becoz they are so full of thier own shit , so fucking arrogant, they think they are the only team in the world thats important, well fuck em..

its changing fellow blues, reds I know just dont want to talk about football this season, in fact one said he just cant get excited this season, the shallow bastard! I got excited when we signed Bertie biggins and Brian Gayle! They know we are coming and it will be relentless, we will blow them out of the water.
