The Titanic

If anyone's ever in Halifax, Nova Scotia there's an excellent "Titanic" museum there. Halifax was the port where many of the bodies that were recovered from the ocean were first brought to land. They are buried in the local cemetery which is beautifully kept and well worth visiting.

When I was in University in the mid 90s I worked in the Nags Head in Covent Garden one summer and got to live over the alehouse as part of the deal, live in job like great for students and travellers from SA and Aus mainly. On a day off I went to this exhibition when it was in Greenwich at the maritime place there. Best quiet mooch about Ive had. It was fascinating looking at the stuff they have salvaged and displayed. Would encourage anyone to do it if able and go and have a look
 
Just watched the investigation of Ocean Gate documentary on BBC2.

Honestly, the negligence is off the scale from everyone involved, zero regard for safety.

Money over safety. The look on his wife's face when she hears the bang.

Apparently the full findings are being released later this year but I don't see how the people involved at Ocean Gate aren't being charged.
 
Stockton Rush is basically a killer.

Its one thing letting adults come aboard a vessel with you that has had limited testing, no certifications etc, but he must have reassured that Suleman lad (19) that he was in for a real adventure and it was perfectly safe. The father, although dead, must also shoulder some of the blame for that. Although much like getting on a plane, or other transport, you just expect it to be safe, we don't all ask for proof of testing and safety certifications etc.

But going 2 miles under the ocean on a tiny sub, whos doing that without due diligence? Mental.

People want an adventure and some like the danger aspect because that's the buzz. Anyone thinking that going 2 miles under the sea in a carbon fibre bubble didn't have risks is, quite frankly, fucking stupid.

Yes, but if they had been told there was a significant noise relating to the hull 3 dives earlier but they hadn't yet bothered to inspect it properly, you would like to think most sane people, including a father taking his child, might have decided to give the dive a miss.
