The Tottenham Thread 12/13

You can't randomly pick 3 players who have been linked to your club in your starting 11 and claim it's a title winning side. Leandro, Willian and Moutinho are, highly likely, not to join Spurs. It's almost a nailed on certainty you won't get all of them, and the safe money would be on you getting none of them. Spurs play in the most competitive league on the planet, they aren't a current Champion's League side and have only qualified for it once anyway. Spurs won't pay top whack on wages (hence the Adebayor saga lasting so long) so that won't help in attracting the best players. So, no Champion's League football, no league titles for decades, no guarantee of future champions league qualification, inability to pay the top rate for wages. Explain to me again why you think top players are falling all over themselves to join Spurs?

The only thing stopping those players coming here is Levy/Money - all of those players want to come and I would be very surprised if at least 1 of them didn't. Whether we can afford it or not is another question, partly depends on what we get for Modric/selling Dawson.

That last question is worded to make any genuine answer sound ridiculous, I'm not going to say that world class players are falling over themselves to join us, but players will join us to play in one of the top teams in the Premier League, and to be regularly starting for us. A striker like Leandro Damaio for instance, would join us instead of a team with 3 or 4 top class strikers already in the pecking order. Moutinho would join us because of his prior relationship with AVB. Willian, probably the same reason as Leandro.

I think Spuds will be right in the mix again this season.

But the manager is Andrea Villiash Bowash. I expect Spurs to fall by the wayside this year.

AVB has more pedigree than Mancini in Europe.

Mancini has been lost in Europe, His Inter side were exposed on numerous occasions and He should have done better last year with the squad that Man City have, Big season for him in the CL.

Mancini has more pedigree in domestic competitions. Every season he has progressed his team. AVB was pushing Chelsea back a long way.

Spurs can attract quality players and those that are linked seemed reasonable enough.

I think it'll take time for the squad to get used to AVBs style, but unlike at Chelsea I think he'll be given the time and will succeed.

If I was Spurs fan, my major concern would the center of defence. Especially the lack of pace (and depth) with the high-line that AVB likes to play.

With Chelsea's additions it looks like top 4 will be a harder ask. Chelsea's Champions League win has really screwed them over.

Just watched the game while at work and I have to say that we were extremely lucky to get a point, Over-run by WBA's midfield and no suprise considering that we have no playmaker who can keep and rotate possession.

Let's just hope this speeds up the transfer activity because we need it.

Are you sure you're a spurs fan and not a comedy creation by an iron or a gooner. According to talkshite, spurs dominated for most of the match and were unlucky not to get all 3 points.

Really?

What game were they watching, We controlled the game in the first half but We didn't make any clear cut chances, Foster didn't even need to make a save and in the 2nd half, We changed it and brought Ade on to partner Defoe but all it did was hand WBA an extra man in midfield, We scored an extremely lucky goal with Ekotto's shot getting a massive deflection.

WBA hit the bar and had a header cleared off the line by Ekotto and then by Gallas, They fully deserved 3 points in my opinion as they created clear cut chances, Lukaku had a fantastic game for them, One part where he shrugged Vertonghen off and did a cutback and was about to score before Vertonghen just blocked his shot.

Friedel also made a vital save when Fortune went through on goal after Ekotto made a terrible mistake.

1 point from 6 despite dominating 2 games. Why? Levy's last minute transfer policy? Think that has contributed

Spurs dominated the first half but when Lukaku came on in the 2nd West Brom completely bossed the game, god knows how they didn't score, but then spurs scored a lucky deflected goal.
