The Tottenham Thread 12/13

Its rich that the likes of United, Arsenal and Liverpool get so upset about their chances of finishing in the "magical top 4" because of the evil money City and Chelsea injected into the game when they advocated the creation of the champions league cartel when they were G14 members.

They created this shitstorm. We're playing by their rulebook.

I was probably as miffed as anyone when Roman came along and did what he did - to start with. But when you apply a bit of rational thought there is not really anything to be upset about. Although I do have a little sympathy with the point of view that clubs should only spend what they generate themselves, there isn't a club on the planet that hasn't had some investment at some point. No other industry (to the best of my knowledge) prevents "outside" investment, so why should football.

To be honest, I just think the whole discussion about it - specifically the impact that the investment at Chelsea and Man City has had - has got incredibly tiresome. Arguement for both sides has been made time and time again and there is nothing new to add. It has just become another stick to beat fans of rival clubs with IMO. Chelsea and City fans (I'm generalising here) seem to just assume that all fans of all other clubs are just bitter (there are certainly some, but it's not fair to tarnish everyone like that) while a cross section of more vocal fans of other clubs accuse Chelsea and City of having "cheated", which is a ridiculous over-reaction and just perpetuates the, in my opinion, incorrect view that all fans of clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham are Liverpool and incredibly bitter. It really annoys me when that word is used because in my experience the vast majority of fans are genuinely far from bitter about it.

Then maybe there is a great deal of truth in the accusations that they are a deluded sent of fans. It was certainly a "gimme" for them for a fair few years, but as I have just said they've won twice in the last five seasons and I really doubt it will be 3 in 6 after tomorrow.

In terms of people commenting on it stopping City winning the league, I don't really understand that. I know I was pissed off that we lost, and certainly every fellow fan I know was. Give me the hypothetical choice of us winning that game and City winning that title or losing it and Man U winning the title and it's the easiest decision I'll ever have to make.

How about I rephrase the question as; who, out of City and United would you prefer to win the title?

If I was to answer that, I'd go for City over United every time.

I've always felt that Spurs/City/Everton have many things in common against Arsenal/United/Liverpool.
totally agree.... newc and villa could be added too mind.

Like soneone said above, Spurs fans won't be disappointed if they lose. They rwgard losing to United as more preferable to losing against any other team.

This is such a myth. Somewhat obviously, when it was Man U .......
Stopped right there pal.

He means in terms of being over shadowed by their city neighbours.

Newcastle and Villa, relate to us and Everton in terms of being in that group below the big clubs.

Spurs have always been a half way house between the likes of us, Everton and Villa and the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and the rags. I think this is why Spurs are often disliked, as they've always had a bigger status than any of the other traditionally less successful clubs.

The Spurs/Rags game may be called off. It has been snowing here for a couple of hours already and looks like it may continue for a few hours more.

Good news or bad news.
I think good if it's off!

No way will it be called off. Bit of snow, even the southerners aren't that soft.

It has nothing to do with being soft. WHL is not an easy ground to get to at the best of times. The snow would make it a lot more difficult. The game may well go ahead but there is a possibility it could be postponed. It would be great news for us.

i went to the lane one year 92/93ish when it called of because of the rain. think it had something to do with the stand being half built at the time, cant c a bit of snow stopping it today.anyway come on the spuds.
