A strategy is an overall plan, so the idea of a 'transfer strategy' has to be rubbish. There are just too many unknowns.

It cannot be a plan to go after players, not get them, so then go after other players and get them instead, if we can.

The club might have a list of targets but that's all it is. Bigging it up as a 'strategy' is stupid.

was this worthy of a new thread on an already clogged up board?

nope.

I dont think we currently have a clue who to try and sign to improve us and build a team round let alone a strategy. I think we are just after a 'big name.'

hughes has stated in an interview that they have indetified players they want (plan a), then he stated if his plan a didn't happen then he has another list of players (plan b) and so on. that to me seems like a strategy!

When he says strategy I think he means he has identified areas of the team that need strengthening. To do this he obviously has a list of players who are better than the ones we aready have in that area or who can give us alternatives. If player A isn't available he'll go for player B or player C.
Thats the way I read it anyway.

I am currently watching the season review 2008/2009 (sad git alert!) and it reminds me what a soft touch we were away from home. I do hope the transfer strategy involves definitely getting some quality central defenders.

And full backs that can actually defend, oh and midfielders who can defend further up the pitch.
Teams found it far too easy to play straight through us last season, as soon as we lost the ball up front it was a clear way straight through to the centre of our defence. Our centre halfs were made to look much worse than they really are.
I'd still like us to strengthen there though.

It is so obvious that we have no real leader or good organizer at the defense, hence, always panic and conceded soft goals.
