De Jong was about our only good midfielder today but the OP uses any excuse to go off at him. The "De Jong can't pass forward" mantra will be repeated when he is the only one who played some good forward passes tonight. Milner was the real culprit tonight from the midfielders, seemed to misplace 3 out of every 5 passes he made. Silva and De Jong have played well together and can play well together. eg. They both played the Porto double header and both played well.
Though DJ was poor a few times he missed tackles or went to ground but in truth he should not be singled out
Milner plays on the wing and has a bad performance - well fuck me would not have expected that - and whilst the logical place for him would be right back instead we put our left back on the right who cant put a fookin cross Edin whom if we are honest looked little better than a Championship player
As I posted before we need INTELLIGENT midfielders (to make creative or incisive plays) not a CM who missed tackles or going to the ground like a toppled pylon allowing our opponents to launch rapid lethal counterattacks.
Thats the notion of a HOLDING MIDFIELDER not one who always launched tackles or go to the ground taking himself most times out of the play.
Its one who can prevent rapid counterattacks or 'skilfully holding the ball in tandem with his team mates' from the opponents.
