The UEFA Cup is Hughes' only hope

That was 4 years after he was appointed. Not the one year that Hughes (or Sven, for that matter) have been given.

Are you suggesting we give all our managers 4 years to show some signs of progress?
Don't put words into other peoples' mouths. Show me where I said to give Hughes 4 years, not what you presume I said. Go on. What I am saying is to certainly give him more than the one year that you (amongst others, including the board I fear) are prepared to give him.

I just asked a fairly simple question, didn't think it would be that hard to give a simple answer.

Simple fact though, that if you would have sacked Ferguson after two years instead of after one it wouldn't have made any difference to their achievements under him. So unless you're advocating giving Hughes 4 years to show some progress, baconface is probably not the best example to use.

Seeing as you seem to be struggling to actually read my post, I'll help you out. I've highlighted my view in my previous post. And, to help you out even further, I'll say it here for you again. Hughes needs more than one year. At least one more season, although I am reticent about putting timescales on him. Moyes has been at Everton for 6 years (?) and O'Neill at Villa for 2 (3?) years, and both of them struggled early on. Unfortunately, as I also said in my earlier post, you will probably get your wish come the end of the season. ADUG are probably not the sort of people who will be prepared to be patient.

I think everyone understands your point regarding stability, but I happen to believe that our owners have the right to appoint their own manager. They were always going to do this at the end of the season, and Hughes must have known that he needed to perform this season to convince them otherwise. Taking a unbiased look at our results and league position, I feel he has failed to do this. However, he still has the uefa cup to go for, which is why, I say again, the op hit the nail on the head with the title of this thread.

I read your post fine, just bemused by your whining that I was putting words in your mouth when I clearly just asked you a question.

As for Moyes and O'Neill, both dramatically improved their side in their first season (without spending £100m +). And both are very good managers, not managers that have achieved at their clubs simply because they got a lot of time to do so.

You implied that I said to give Hughes 4 years. I don't remember saying any such thing. As for accusing me of whining, that's rich coming from you. Every time we lose, you come on banging on about the need to get rid of Hughes. We don't seem to see as much of you after a win. Still, as I've previously posted, you will probably get your wish at the end of the season. I hope you will be very happy.

No, I asked you if you believed we should give Hughes 4 years. That is a question, hence the use of the question mark.

I'm here as much after a win as I am after a loss, and I talk about Hughes maybe because it's a topic thats discussed quite often on here (you seem to be just as willing to put your point of view on Hughes across in these threads so I'm not sure why your whining about that now).

That's because I believe being a fan means sticking with the team and manager through bad times as well as good. Yes, I know; what good times? I know this line of thought will not catch on with everybody, but it's what I believe. Until such time as Hughes gets the bullet (which I've already said I think he will at the end of the season), until then he gets my support.
