The weakness on this squad needs to be flushed out. How do we do it?

I think with Mangala in the first 5 games of the season him and Kompany were solid as a rock. We all commented on how good that pairing were during those games keeping 5 clean sheets so thats the main reason why I wont write him off it would be silly to do that. Just think him and Otamendi are so alike both are prone to fucking up at times but both will stay around for 1 more season I think. You look at what happen when we got rid of Boateng he went to Munich and has been the ever present defender for years you look at him under Pep and other managers and he has been a different player.

Mainly because he has been played where he wanted to play rather than shoved out as a RB which Mancini did with him. I have seen enough of Mangala to see someone who makes too many mistakes. It is almost one huge one every game nowadays.

Boateng is still regularly dropping bollocks for Bayern. Just he has less pressure most of the time & gets wildly overrated, like Smalling. He's been personally responsible for about half the goals we scored v them in the Champs Lg.

There are hardly any decent cbs in world football. Bang average ones like Managala & Otamendi & that Sideshow Bob knobhead at PSG are going for fortunes.

Right team last night but wrong formation.

Fern & Delph needed to sit back. Yaya, Serg, Dav & KDB needed to be left alone to do their thing. Kolarov and Bacs needed to be less gun-ho.

If Pellers insists on playing like that again then he has to grow some and drop Yaya, bringing him on for the last 30 in a game to make an impact if needed but nothing more.

A four of Serg, Dav, KDB & Sterling/Navas should be enough to carve out chances as long as they play quick one-touch football and stop being so static. It was piss easy for Arsenal last night. We generally take aaaages to counter, they get in to a 4-5 and don't bother pushing out or up when Kolarov or Bacs push up = no room in behind.

It was a similar problem for them but whilst Walcott/Yaya goals evened each other out, we had one clown who made a mistake and they punished us as all teams seem to do against us this season. The complete opposite to us where in too many games we've had clear cut chances, not taken them and it then feels like the other team have gone down the other end of the pitch and scored - last night was almost a carbon copy of Stoke and I didn't like it one bit.

I agree that Kompany and Mangala looked solid but without Kompany the defence and the whole team are a lot less organised and considerably weaker. I think Mangala may come good, but if I had my way, i'd be selling Mangala and letting Demichelis go in the summer. I'd go for Stones and bring Denayer back from loan.

You need a manager who is strong enough to call out the players when they underperform. You also need strong players who will call out each other.

From the outside it appears there is no accountability. Players are picked on reputation not merit. Yaya needed someone to give him a fucking big bollocking last night when he let half the arsenal midfield join an attack ahead of him. But no one did it. I cant imaging Pellegrini doing it either.

Get rid of the "individuals" who refuse to follow a gameplan and start playing as a team. It's the basics of football, but we aren't doing it. The manager is hugely culpable in that as well, but I'd struggle to pick out more than a handful of players who you can genuinely say are doing a role for the team.

as long as Fernando, Navas, Mangala, Sterling and Bony stay we will win all before us

get rid of that Yaya bloke though

he'll never win you anything ;-)

Its mainly due to Pelligrini's slower, possession oriented style of 442/4411/4222.
Very difficult to play 70% of the game at that pace and then suddenly turn it on.
A good analogy would be that of a slow, thoughtful, tactical boxer facing a faster, stronger opponent.
The thoughtful boxer will delay punching until the latter rounds.
However, most of the time, the boxer's mindset is so used to defending/evading that he never really attacks and eventually loses.
