The West Ham Thread

West Ham will likely have a decent shot at survival next season. Neither Southampton nor Reading will be spending huge sums and both will struggle, add to that Wigan who are always there or there abouts, and if Martinez leaves could well finally go down. Then there's the "sophmore slump" that has seen sides go down in the past, so Norwich and Swansea may well struggle. QPR likely won't be in trouble again, Fernandez will spend enough to make them safe, but they'll still be in the picture for a while. Have I missed anyone? Oh yeah, West Brom, without a manager as yet so who knows where they'll end up, Villa too may well have issues, although I can't see them being as bad again. With no ill feelings towards West Ham I have to say I was rooting for Blackpool to come up but, as that didn't happen, West Ham are probably organised in a way which makes them far more likely to survive.

Both have brand new filthy rich owners.

Southampton have just spent £7m on an unproven Championship striker

They'll still both struggle, and I still don't see huge sums being spent. Yes, £7m on Rodriguez is a big undertaking, but it also shows that a striker from Burnley is where Southampton are looking for their quality! Southampton have done the "double promotion" thing that both Watford and City have done before. Both Watford and City went straight back down as there was simply too many League One/lower level Championship players in their squads. Southampton will likely do the same.

Norwich stayed up after a double promotion without spending heavily.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I've never understood how you could all back Green so much. Granted I don't watch him every week like your lot do (thank god) but he constantly looks like he'll start crying and make a mistake.

Really has been great for us over the years, the USA mistake was the best thing that could of happened as no club wanted to touch him after that - he's a class keeper and would be Englands Number 1 if it wasnt for Joe Hart

-- Tue May 29, 2012 4:17 pm --

How do you feel Nolan will cope next year?

Never contributed much to our overall game but had habit of scoring crucial goals and being a leader..

Like alot of our fans, Nolan was a worry at first , 5 year contract and massive wages ! for a player age'ing and he looked very sluggish at start of the season.

But big Sam went out of his way to get him for one reason, his influence is massive, he screams at players if there not pulling there shift and really gives the team a lift - we wouldnt have got promoted without him, so on the promotion alone he's worth that contract - he should be ok in the prem, Noble and Collison are the legs and Nolan has a habit of being in the right place at the right time, he will be for us what Lampard is for chelsea.

Hmmm, if it wasn't for Hart I would have Robinson and Foster ahead of Green.

Fair enough , Green has still yet to sign a new contract and were being linked with Robinson - would be upset to see Green go tho.
