The whisky thread

Monkey shoulder a Scottish malt whisky bloody lovely
Get yourself a bottle of jura 10 from asda for £27 . I don't mind monkey shoulder and its better than some of the others like haig club . I ain't a expert but I've been trying for 20 years. Jura 10 is superb for the age and price . It's better than many other expensive ones I've bought. Happy supping blue

Not a big whisky fan but a mate gave me a glass of Silkie in Donegal, it was lovely.

A bit about it below I’ve copied and pasted….
Sliabh Liag Distillers has shown its smoky side with this Irish blend, dubbed The Legendary Dark Silkie! Taking inspiration from 19th century Donegal whiskey, a triple distilled peated single malt is at the core of this expression, peated to about 22ppm and matured in sherry casks. It's then blended with a bourbon-matured single malt as well as a grain whiskey having been rested in virgin oak. The result? A fruity, subtly smoky and dry bottling which is sure to convert Irish whiskey lovers to a hint of peat!

About to try this.

And……
Describe it while you can still type.

Nice.. peat is subtle but makes a difference. Feels like you can smell it more than taste it. Not as sweet as I expected. Lovely bottle and box design, if that counts for anything. Pretty unique.

I like the thought of trying an Irish peaty or peat influenced deoch.
(That’s dram to yourself)

tell you what.. it grows on you
You’ve inspired me to have a nightcap.
I’ve chosen that 12 year old Tullamore Dew I found at the back of the cabinet.
And you know what, it is very different to the likes of Redbreast or Teelings, but it has a flavour I can only describe as…. Perfumed. Just as it’s nose is scented, it has an unusual perfumed taste at the front and side of the tip of your tongue that, to Rob your phrase…..
Is growing on me. It’s different but really pleasant.

Now. To put Derry Girls on.

Actually I’ll put them on hold.
Last episode of the John Gilligan interview is on now.
Great documentary. Confessions of a crime boss.

I’m looking forward to the day I’m old enough for my tastebuds to have degenerated enough to enjoy a good whisky.

It'll be decades before I’ll be able to enjoy brandy.

I think I have tastebuds in the roof of my mouth too.
Because it’s hitting up there too, not just my tongue.

You’ll get there. Keep practicing.

If anyone is looking to try something a bit different I can recommend anything from Glengoyne as an all-rounder single malt, and for something a bit punchier and smokier Kilchoman is a lovely small Isla distillery.

that's that bottle done.

Should make this like the album thread, we all try one and discuss it.

Right.
I’m back.
Ireland just beat SA and I’m battered and bruised.
Felt every hit.

Back on the Teelings.

Starting to wonder if I have a problem.

Or better still.
Have it like that thread where you have to pick your favourite out of two songs.
The winner goes through to the next round.

Hopefully there's not a whiskey called Morrissey.
