The World Cup is an opportunity for people who...

I agree totally. The responses on here have been largely insightful and well thought-out. I'm sure the same could be said for other clubs forums too.
But in tomorrows papers columnists who get paid a great deal of money will talk utter shite and I'm dreading the pub tomorrow where everyone will parrot the shite and pass it off as their opinion.

Mark Bright was puzzled about how well Argentina performed tonight after struggling in qualifying, getting beat 6-1 in Bolivia etc.

How about the fact that most of their players flew in from Europe a couple of days before to play at 12,000 feet? Whereas now they've been in a settled camp for 6 weeks.

Alan Mullery on Sky Sports News, said Capello did a good job in qualifying for Euro 2008 and we had a reasonable tournament. No one in the studio had the nouse to tell him that McClaren was manager and we didn't even qualify.

Too many lollipops working in the football media.

...don't know anything about football to pretend to have an interest and slag off England.

Yes, we were shit

Oh, the irony.....
I think most people will accept that we didn't play well, but it doesn't mean you have to say the team are useless and don't deserve to represent their country. We didn't have a good tournament, we were pretty shit to be frank, but I wouldn't slag us off how others are, claiming how every player is useless without giving reasons, and burning my England flag..

Qualifying for a tournament and doing reasonably well when you weren't even manager is no mean feat. Perhaps he tried doing the same in South Africa?
Fuck it, get Shteve back, he can communicate with the Dutch players in the squad.

I agree. There are too many dickheads who jump on the band wagon when its going well but cant wait to jump off it when it all goes wrong. Thats why i didnt watch it in the pub.

Yes, we were shit, and I'm not the biggest England fan, but I know well enough to always support my team through thin and thinner. On facebook I've seen groups saying Beckham should be the manager, people saying the players shouldn't be allowed back in the country and even some woman burning her England flag. Plus all the interviews of people at places like Castlefield trying to give an expert opinion, when in fact they're just saying that the team are shite and have disgraced us.

I'm glad most City fans aren't like this, as we all seem to be a bit more realistic and understanding when we fail, and above all proud no matter what. Anyway, bring on 14th August, come on you blues!
Spot on, it's stupid how they all appear from nowhere.

But why were so many people underestimating the Germans then? Underestimating Germany in a big tournament? How is that possible?

Isn't it something that should have been learned a long time ago that never underestimate the Germans!? Germany are prepared, they think through everything, good preparation prevents bad performance.
