The World is Going to Burn Baby

One thing that seems to be common with these populist nationalist chaps is that when they get the hands on power they really seem to know what they are doing.

Turkey is fast going down the toilet with the performance of Erdogan citing the power of Allah to smite the markets and raise the Turkish lira followed by his economic czar (his son in law) who sweated buckets and didn’t say anything remotely sensible. Trump then weighed in and made it worse. Expect the EU having to organise a bail out once the kiddies have finished shitting everywhere.

Italy has moved to discourage vaccines as the new Govt is convinced herbal tea and chanting will do the trick. Expect a further uptick in measles etc.

And who said trade wars can’t be fun?

Yeah we all going to burn through stupidity lol

Good reason to not be in then?

My own definition FWIW.
Essentially proposing policy that panders to the lowest common denominator regardless of consequence or outcome, right or wrong, good or bad, gain, loss or principle.

Politicians who propose simplistic and invariably nationalist solutions to complex problems and (to quote @goalmole) pander to the lowest common denominator. They are invariably liars and posses a victim complex a mile wide.

Brexit is our contribution. A complex problem reduced to a slogan on a bus and racist posters. Two years later 73% believe Leave promises will be broken and 63% believe they were misled. Lies and stupidity are a toxic mix.

On the money.

These aren't definitions. They cover every opinion that you disagree with (and practically everything you don't) but definitive they are not.

Donald Trump and the EU are protectionist, against globalization and anti free trade.
Trying to link Trump and Brexit together because that's what you read on the BBC website and in the Guardian is illogical.
Try thinking things through for yourselves.

In terms of the future of the world being so grim, you're simply wrong. Try this...

https://ourworldindata.org/

... you'll see that the the prospects for the world have never been better.

The data doesn't support your view.

Cling to your ill informed pessimism by all means, but trying to make your self appear clever by predicting the 'end is nigh' against all the evidence to the contrary is tragic.

The EU isn’t protectionist. No organisation that establishes frictionless trade between 30 countries and the abolition of borders and barriers within those countries for trade, capital and people can be described as protectionist. Trump is an idiot who still thinks the world works like it did in the 1930’s.

And the thread title is tongue in cheek so lighten up.

More signs of the world melting in the populist heat as a radical fringe party surges in Germany just two points off the SPD. Worrying times as (checks notes) the Greens take third spot. No doubt we will have endless articles in the UK press pointing out that ignoring the legitimate demands of pro immigration vegans and hemp wearers inevitably leads to a surge in support for these radicals.

Which party are the Greens on that chart, mate?

Yeah I can see how giving the people of a democracy what they desire rather than what my political opinions think is good for them is undemocratic and dangerous

If only mainstream politicians and organisations like the EU would actually listen eh?

To the Greens and their pro-EU and pro-immigrant message? Yes. Oh wait. They do. Well apart from the compulsory wearing of clothing made from hemp. You have to draw the line somewhere.
