Alabama is it's own little world. It was still illegal to have an interracial marriage there until the mid-90's. The people there are just so backwards.

As far as the death penalty, it's definitely an embarrassment that we still have it. It's sad that the mouth breathers and dumbasses still have so much influence here.

It's also worth noting that Alabama and Utah (where the execution took place) are conservative republican strongholds. Conservatism in the US has devolved into a bunch of religious freaks and racists. There was another campaign ad attacking a candidate because he believed in evolution.

Also, the darling of the dumbass conservatives, Sarah Palin, believes that humans and dinosaurs coexisted. If McCain had won she would have been a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Have to say I spent two weeks in Alabama last spring in Montgomery, Mobile, Dauphin Island and various backwoods stop offs and found the people great. I suppose it helped that I'd already perfected the ability to reproduce a high volume piggy squeal. If it's concentrated gimps per square mile you're after may I recommend Rawtenstall.

In the past they would send the executed prisoners family a bill for the cost of the bullets the firing squad had used!

Once when browsing in a second hand book shop I found a book that was a collection of last meal requests by executed prisoners in the US. It gave the prisoners name, offence and date and place of execution followed by the details of the food they had ordered. Extremely bizarre, as were many of the meal requests, in fact I wondered whether diet was in some cases a factor in the brutal crimes that had been committed.

Here's a handy database: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.deadmaneating.com/dmearch.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.deadmaneating.com/dmearch.html</a>

Thanks for that, BB. I'm sure some of them try to eat so much that they won't fit into the electric chair. 16 Pepsis and all those Jalapenos? Now that is a lethal ingestion.

Surprised none of them have blown up after that.
