There, their, they're, your, you're, we're, were, where...

I always try to use correct grammar but it's not like you're writing out a novel or a job application on here is it? As long as the post is legible then I couldn't really care less, I have a lot more important things to get stressed over in life.

I don't think the problem is the state of the grammar, or even poor spelling, the problem is the 'who gives a fuck' attitude. You'll get it soon enough on this thread. Plenty will come on and say it's not an issue as long as you get the gist of the post,

I agree wholeheartedly. You didn't have to wait long I see:

How do you "try" to use the right words? You either know their context or you don't. It's nothing to do with stress either, it's not stressful to know the difference between "of" and "have".

I'm getting tired of hearing people trying to justify it as not being important. It's YOUR OWN LANGUAGE, of course it's important. If you were having a crack at speaking Dutch, then it wouldn't be so important to get the right words, but this is your own tongue.
Rather than try and justify why your grasp of English is shaky, why not spend the time learning the difference? It doesn't take long, you've got the internet at your fingertips.

Easier to slag everyone else off for being "picky" though isn't it?

Why is it so hard for people to use the correct one? I see it daily on here, facebook and lots of other sites and it baffles me how many people get it wrong.
People are stupid.

Getting these wrong is a pet hate of mine. There are plenty of other spelling and grammatical errors that get on my nerves as well.

Is it down to people just not bothering to concentrate at school or do people just not really care?

What I find baffling is when you see something written that has used 'there' and 'their' in the same sentence. If somebody is going to use those then surely they must understand the meaning behind them, or is that too much to ask?

I think that's an example of someone hedging their bets, the person concerned knows they're not sure of the right one, but at least they're getting it right once. So they probably do care to an extent, but not enough to spend ten minutes of their life learning the difference.

As I say, it's quicker and easier to just say "Who gives a fuck, it's not an English exam". Then it's your fault, see?

It's a difficult one. In many respects, as long as I can understand a sentence then I'm not sure that it matters too much that someone has made grammatical errors. After all, the whole point of language is to get information across and I do find that in most cases, despite grammatical errors, I know what people are trying to say. Having said all that, I do make judgements about people on the basis of their spelling and grammar and I do bollock my son when he offers to "borrow" people money.

Uh oh, who's gonna tell Big Vince?
