Man Utd London HQ for sale
Russell Lynch
24 Jan 2012

The London headquarters of premiership club Manchester United is up for sale for £170 million, the Evening Standard understands.

Stratton House in Piccadilly, opposite Green Park Tube and the Ritz hotel, is being sold by the West End of London Property Unit Trust (Welput) - a fund managed by Schroders - according to property industry sources. Strutt & Parker and DTZ are understood to be the joint agents handling the sale.Man Utd, bought in 2005 by Malcolm Glazer, pictured, moved into the building last year, taking up 11,500 square foot after outgrowing their base in Pall Mall.

Jersey-based Welput originally bought the property for £82.5 million in 2005. The fund, recently paid £65 million for Warner Brothers' Theobald's Road headquarters in Holborn.

An extensive refurbishment of Stratton House was completed in 2009, including a luxury penthouse apartment sold to an overseas buyer for nearly £30 million, then a record the area. One source close to the deal said: "This is prime freehold, it's brand new and it has all the attributes to appeal to any overseas buyer."

Why would a so called Manchester club need a London HQ?

Balo and 'Arry on trial.

The old saying "good day to bury bad news" springs to mind.

Well, they need to make up the cash from missing out on the CL from somewhere, every little £170m helps........

I've got a spare room upstairs with a desk in it. Wonder if they'd be interested, I could use the extra cash.

Doesnt this just prove pb,s point about how much shit they are in.

Closing down offices, cutting costs and no transfers.

The opposite trajectory to us. The start of the end.

I don't reckon the rags own the property?? It's not been mentioned anywhere before as an asset. If they did own it, and sold it for 170 million that would bring their current debt down to 200 million?? The Glazers could recoup that in 2 seasons through TV advertising and sponsorship and be debt free by 2014!!

Uncle Malcolm is going nowhere boys.

They rent the office. As we presumably will. They have no control over when it's sold and won't get any of the proceeds.
